"Mr. Cub" is gone...

Hi,

Just heard the news: Ernie Banks, Hall of Famer who played his entire career with the Chicago Cubs and earned the nickname "Mr. Cub" passed yesterday. He was 83 years old, just a few days short of his 84th birthday. Let's play two, Mr. Banks! And may you rest in peace.

Ernie Banks was one of the greats. He never got the publicity he deserved because he played his entire career with the pitiful Chicago Cubs. They did put him in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Ernie was my first hometown sports hero, I was just around four or five when I realized professional baseball and Ernie was the greatest in my eyes. He lived a good long life and besides being a legend as a baseball player, he was a gentle man that always seemed to have a smile on his face. Rest well my old hero.

My buddy Bill and I were talking about this today. Bill umped his first game for the Monarchs and Ernie was playing for them at the time.
