what are the first things one needs to do when moving to another state and what order after establishing an address?
I forgot.
dmv license?
voter registration town hall?
bank account?
what else?

You have 90 days on the DL in most states. Going to be hard to do voter registration without DL or some bills sent to new address. I'd get whatever "official" mail you get (bank, utilities, etc.) changed over first and use that to get the rest set up.

Just check the new States website. They should have a checklist for new residents that explains what is needed and the order in which it needs to happen.

does having a bank account established in the new state count as proof?

case in point. I own 4 homes in 4 states.
one must receive all the mail when the others are vacant.
since we already own and have residency established thru taxes on record, I cant see how changing addresses helps. we currently have mail forwarded from the 3 not occupied.

I think In would get the voter registration done first as some places have a residency requirement of say, 30 days in order to vote there.
Then get the vehicle registration changed and notify the insurance company as it could change premiums and/or coverage.
My son has changed states 3 times. When he moved to MS from VA he waited until the car tags were due. When he moved to AL they gave himn30 days.

P. O. Change of address notice establishes residency. Utility bill or a bank statement with the new address provides proof for driver's license. Voter registration can be done online for most states.

At least that's all it takes here. How'd you do it on your other 4 homes?

OP - Every state I would guess is different. I know in TX, after moving from CT, I had to first do a change of address with the USPS. Once in TX I had to get change my insurance policies to reflect living in TX. I then had to get the vehicles inspects, then go to the tax office to register them. I had to bring proof that I am now living in TX. If you bought a house the closing paperwork of a few pieces of mail addressed to you would work. If renting something from the property management or again some mail would work. In my case I am in a class A RV so I had the park I am staying at write me a letter stating am living their as I am renting a space form them. Once the vehicles were registered I was then able to get a TX drivers licence (from the Texas Department of Public Safety). They want you vehicles registered and insured first. I registered to vote while getting my driver's license.

You need to contact any credit cards and any other accounts and do an address change. Most of which can be done online.

Sounds like a lot but was easy.

Once you have a TX license you can then go and get a Licence to Carry. (requires a class)

I think you know how it is in CT. Go to DMV, first they make sure you owe no taxes, then they talk to you.
