Well a Tom Mountain Lion was ran over in Central Ark last night. AGFC released a statement that there was not a Breeding population in Ark. There is DeerCam pics of Cougars taken all over Ark!!! Why they don't want to address the issue is a mystery. I look at Mtn Lions about like I look at Bears. Nuisance animals

Wildlife folks want to keep denying things to actually protect the critters. If they admit to having them,, the next thing is Bubba Joe Redneck will be wanting to kill them all. Of course the media will have all the animal lovers out in force to try & restrict hunting them AND other critters.
Several states have laws protecting them,, yet also claim there are not any in the State. A buddy of mine asked a game warden some years back what would happen if he shot one. the reply was he'd get arrested & charged. He replied with something like; "If you say there isn't any in the State,, how can I be charged with killing a non-existent critter?"
He was firmly told he would be charged because even though the official word is that none are here,, to protect the POSSIBILITY of any being here,, they are a protected species.

As usual, I got confused by title of thread. I could see the Unicorns getting run over by Moses' Ark when the flood started... Then I thought that the 'P' was left off of Park where there might be wild animals roaming around??? then I thought of the Animal Ark we have several miles out of town that rescues wild animals that were injured possibly some in a forest fire and is like a zoo with several exotic animals some others rescued from owners who were negligent.

The Amish in PA swear there are cougars/lions roaming around. But yet no evidence. I think if there were cougars/lions there would be a ton of evidence like deer cam pics, remains of killed wildlife/livestock and some moron bragging about and showing one on social media. I have hunted heavily populated lion areas in Southern California and Utah. I've seen their sign and their kills stuffed high and low, including a too close encounter in Utah.
That said several years ago while coaching youth football a mountain lion strolled out of the alongside the tree line adjacent to the field.....lots of screams and women/mother running onto the field to grab their kids.....I only caught a glimpse before it strolled casually onto a walking trail that led to a neighborhood. This was in the Gettysburg area......it caused a panic for a couple days before PGC finally made and announcement it was an escapee......and it boggled my mind that so many people didn't know there was an exotic animal zoo/rescue only a few miles away. The lion was eventually captured and returned to the zoo rescue. It was an elderly female, very close to passing away. In fact the zoo/rescue later did state fault but said the animal was probably just looking for a place to set and pass.
I think most sightings in areas are misidentification or escapes from rescues or exotic pet owners.
The bears keep us busy enough.....we don't need to add lions to the mix.....

Anyone that carries a gun at all that’s adequate for personal defense shouldn’t have a risk regarding mountain lions and is adequately protected from the cats. A 38 Special is certainly adequate. They are very light skinned with small bones. The key is being alert to being followed or snuck up on.

Two years ago one came walking down my street. It was summer and we aren’t that far from the river. He went in the neighbors yard, they left the gate open, and her small children had just gone into the house a few minutes before the cat showed up.
My town has one animal control officer. The police showed up and killed it.
When I was a kid, my grandpa had a ranch with a creek running through it. They came down from the hills in the summer for the water, and of course the lambs and calves. We shot them on sight. And no we didn’t call anyone or tell anyone. All the neighbors who had livestock did the same.

A few years back, the Amish community in Macon county MO conducted a mountain lion hunt similar to the way they do a 'fox hunt'. Every available person showed up surrounding the suspected area of the animal and then the line closed in until the critter was flushed and/or tried to pass through the line. A nursing female was killed proving that there was in fact, a 'breeding population' in the area. MDC showed up but TV and newspaper reporters were already there. Public pressure and the sheer numbers of people who participated prevented anyone from being cited for killing the 'non-existent population' of predatory animals.
One of my rural mail carriers reported seeing a mountain lion cross a little used gravel road in the area of the corners of Macon, Sullivan, Linn, and Adair counties in north MO in the early 2000's. That man was a long time coyote hunter and area resident so I have no doubt of what he saw. I've personally seen a couple of deer kills that were distinctly 'cat like' vs coyote or dog. On one of those cases, the local game warden was also called and we had a fairly heated argument with him finally saying "I'm reporting this as a road kill followed by dogs or coyotes eating the carcass. I suggest YOU just keep quiet." :oops: o_O

Several years ago a lady hit a mountain lion with her car during morning rush hour at the I35/I29 interchange in Kansas City north.

The cat mentioned by the OP was a few miles from where I live. It was a dang good sized cat for sure. They said it weighed 160 pounds and approximately 7ft long. As the OP said, we have had several over the years on deer cams. They are here for sure. Whether there are any breeding females, who knows.

Heck, had one hunting the canyon behind my place. Authorities denied it until a neighbor showed video of it in his backyard.
But they said it was a pet that got out then went home. It kept showing up then just moved on after it had cleared out all the edible critters.

Not long after the roadkill that Don mentioned occurred and in the same area, a mountain lion was killed while stalking/chasing livestock. The livestock owner chased the cat up a tree and shot it. They immediately called TV and newspaper reporters who arrived before MDC could confiscate and remove the carcass. Threats went back and forth and in the end, MDC removed the critter and the story was squelched. Only reason I heard about it was my neighbor lady's Daughter and SIL lived just across the fence from where it all happened.
A few years back less than 5 miles from my place, a bowhunter claimed to have been approached/stalked by a ML while leaving his stand. There may be some credence to this as soon after, an MDC plane spent 2-3 days circling the area like maybe looking for something or tracking a radio collar.
