Most accurate ammo for MkI .22

Is there one brand that stands out in the Mk series??I've only shot Federal cheaps Federal match CCI and Winchester all with same results. Am I missing any I should try? I get "fliers" with all of these. Gun is a MkI 4" with adjustable sights

Sadly, the best answer I've been given seems a bit smart alecky, but here it is: "It's the ammo that shoots most accurately in YOUR gun."

Now, what kind of accuracy do you want/need? Bulk pack stuff's fine for killing cans, and in some guns shoots well enough for pest control. "Mid-grade" such as CCI Blazers and Mini-Mags have served me fine for "a little more accurate" such as one wants for rabbits and squirrels a little further out. I don't need target accuracy, but the Winchester T-22 was a favorite of the guys shooting the .22 events at our local silhouette matches.

But only testing will tell you what fits your needs. Sorry...

Start testing the cheapest ammo you can find and work your way up the price scale until you find the ammo that produces the accuracy YOU want at the price YOU want to pay. This point can come anywhere along the line.

In all honesty, I've not found a type of ammo that didn't shoot pretty good in a MK1 target that I gave my son. My 22/45 HB shoots everything I've tried in it from Win subsonic to CCI Velocitor as good as I can hold.
I know some guns won't do this so you just have to testfire until you reach your accuracy goal.

The OP asked about most accurate ammo. Are you saying it's going to be the most accurate in his gun? I'd be willing to bet that it's not.

I always thought that the Aquila ammo smelled like any carnival food stand set on fire. :lol:

Nothing like trying different ammo. It's fun. Don't over look the Wolf brand in your testing.

The results in my MKII Competition are similiar to yours. I get about 2"-2 1/2" groups at 25 yards with the cheapest ammo including Remington Thunderbolt, Federal , Winchester, etc. Haven't tried any of the match ammo yet but I plan to find something a little better. I am happy with the results considering it is reasonable plinking accuracy with super cheap ammo. I just hope I can improve somewhat on it with match ammo.

Your gun should do better than 2-2.5" at 25 yards with almost any ammo. I'd think 1.5" would be more like it, with some kinds getting down towards an even inch.

Two fairly inexpensive ammos you might want to try for accuracy are Federal 510 Champions (NOT a bulk ammo) and Winchester Dynapoints. I'll bet at least one of those will shoot well for you.

I once had a Mkll 10" Bull Barrel it shot lousy too so I tried all the different types of ammo and ended up finding out that when I sent it in for a drill and tap at My local Gunsmith he informed me that the barrel was eroded about half way down the tube, he said it was probably some cutting fluid that never got completely cleaned out, when he was cleaning the bore after the drill and tap he noticed severe pitting in bore and upon further inspection of the bore he discovered the erosion, he sent the gun back to Ruger and they too agreed with his findings and put a new barrel on free of charge.
