Well, it seems I've got more patrolling to do. Thieves are once again hitting the ranch adjacent to me. That new orchard of pistachio trees I told you about, with the alfalfa growing between the rows is getting hit. Not by the desperados you might be THINK ng of, though. It's four legged bandits this time. And those legs are attached to coyotes.
The weather has turned hot this last week, with temps at or near 100, expected to reach and hold in the 105+ range through the 4th. While the irrigation canals are near full and flowing, it's difficult for the yotes to drink from them. Being the stinking bandits that they are, they find it much easier to chew through the plastic irrigation tubing running down the rows of trees - 240 rows with 200 trees each. That makes for a lot of water fountains for these good for nothings. The damn things chew a new hole whenever and wherever they are thirsty. I've shot two in the last two evenings and scared three or four off before I could get a shot the last couple early mornings.
I'm heading out now on the quad to see what I can see. Taking the old 30.30 with me tonight; I want to see what those Hornady Leverevolution rounds will do, if my eyes work okay with ghost ring iron sights.
