Watched a Hickok45 short yesterday. Seeing as how .38 (actually .357") can be fired in a .357, 9mm & .380 bullets are only a .002" smaller, he claimed that the .38 caliber was the "mother" of all these, and therefore one of the most important calibers ever developed.

Well, the .36 was popular in cap & ball revolvers. For a list of cartridges visit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9_mm_caliber. More than 30 different .36ish cartridges

I find it interesting how many .36s have come and gone. Why .36 and not .37 or .38?
Perhaps it harkens back to when 36” x 24” x 36” was considered ideal?

I like Hickok45, but I can understand that he may not be everyone's cup of tea. I have to grit my teeth to watch anything by Yankee Marshall, or, God forbid, 22plinkster, or numerous other "Internet experts"

Just read an article suggesting the .327 Magnum in a handgun could be good for hunting deer. The author said she has not taken a deer with a .327 Mag handgun but thought it had possibilities. I wondered....

FWIW the 327 rolled a couple whitetails within months of its introduction in the Single Seven.
I think the 327 is a more appropriate deer cartridge (within reasonable limits) than the 6.5 ManBun is an elk cartridge, but lots of Internet experts disagree there too.

Thanks. There's a link to the article in that thread. Kind of a fluff piece but she did sound fairly realistic about use and expectations.
I read on another forum that the Federal American Eagle 100gr JSP worked well and held together on a close (15 yd) shot from a tree stand. The 327 wouldn't be my first choice but it's interesting to think about.

Those crucial observations aside, I guess you can say that some chamberings are better for deer than some others. JMHO
