Modified ejector rods?

Freedom Arms revolvers have a modified ejector rod, which allows the removal of the base pin on shorter barreled revolvers. http://www.gunblast.com/Boge_Freedom97.htm

Has anyone tried that on a Ruger? Looks like it would require a cam cut ejector housing. Does anyone make cam cut housings for Rugers?

MK Technologies from Brownells makes one I tried once tried but there's only enough cam action to tuck up tight agianst the barrel which is not sufficient to get the ER button out of the way of the cyl pin. And they do not fit well to the Ruger frame and barrel.
If you replace the Ruger ER with a Colt, you can remove enough material for the pin to clear. If you tried that with the new Ruger crescent ER, there wouldn't be anything left of it.

So I use the stock Ruger straight slot housing. But I grind and polish a 'cam' curve in the end of the Colt head as shown below. The curve must 'nest' or align with the curve of the housing attachment screw when the head is up tight against the barrel in a Ruger straight slot housing. The spring tension creates the cam action to turn the head into the barrel at the end of the stroke.

I also use a USFA housing but there's only one size for a 3 1/2" barrel:

I've seen one that had a notch cut at the rear of the ejector rod housing that allowed the head to turn into the notch and the base pin to slide past it. Then the head can be rotated out of the slot and the cylinder removed. The ejector held all the way to the rear, would also keep you from dropping they cylinder out accidentally when you removed the base pin.

Yes that's another good option and one that can be done to any Ruger housing very simply.

I don't want to pull ERH just to remove pin to clean. I like to remove and run a patch thru pin holes too.

ok Jim, i have trouble with the ejector works guming up, oil and holster debris,and desert dust, ERH comes off for cleaning more than just a wipe down with a oilee rag.i did have a housing screw fail underfire. .44mag. i do like the colt rods.
