I have the opportunity to buy a MKI bull barrel or MKII standard..

Price is the same for each.

Is there any reason I should opt for the MKII over the MKI?

I am new to these guns, but they seem to have a huge reputation and following behind them.

Thanks for your help!

The only difference between the two is the bolt latch and safety.

The Mark I safety functioned not only to prevent a discharge, but also served to lock the bolt in either the open or closed position.... safety on, bolt locked; safety off, bolt unlocked. The bolt will close after the last shot is fired.

The Mark II had a separate bolt latch that was activated by the magazine follower.... after the last shot is fired, the bolt would lock open. The safety functioned independent of the bolt.

Either will be a good choice - it just comes down to whether you want the bull barrel and better sights on the Mark I or the additional feature of the Mark II, but lacking the target sights and heavy barrel.

Another consideration is the Standard model has fixed sights and the Mark I will have target adjustable sights.

THANKS EVERYONE!

I went with the MKI - I expect I would have as much fun with either, but it was the comments here and the adjustable sights that sold me on the MKI.

Can't wait to put some rounds through it!

I have a MKI with bull barrel purchased in Nov 1980 that I had converted to MKII
so it is possible (if the parts are still available) to have the best of both worlds. LOL
