MK III Talo....recommend scope ?

If you're hell-bent on a scope, a Weaver 2X handgun scope would be my recommendation. Anything over 2X is okay off a rest, but a real pain shooting offhand.
However..... you said it's going to be a "plinker". If so, I'd forget the scope and fit it with a red dot.

I have a MK III 5.5" Target with a Fastfire II and also a MK III Hunter with a Matchdot II. The Fastfire II is great for fast acquisition plinking at less than 50 yards. I would go with the Fastfire III if I was buying today to get the manual adjustment on dot brightness, it wasn't available when I got the Fastfire II. I have had problems with the Fastfire II dot flaring and now have some tape over the sensor hole to reduce the amount of light that gets to it and that helps with flaring problem. Don't think you would have that problem with the newer Fastfire III. I like the Matchdot II, which is a tube type, much better than the Fastfire but that may be do to the type of plinking I like to do. The small dot size of the Matchdot allows you to be more precise at longer ranges where my Fastfire just covers the whole target. I prefer smaller dot size but each has it's place in the shooting game.
I have a Burris 4x pistol scope and put on the Hunter. It allowed for some long range plinking but turns the combo into a boat anchor making me use it with a rest all the time. It is now resting on the shelf.

You will find this sight under various names if you don't want to put a Browning marked sight on a Ruger :mrgreen: One friend has this sight by AIM which cost $39.95 mounted on his S&W 22A and he can regularly ring the 8" steel at 100 yards using a rest. While it may not be a Burris, Ultadot or EOTech it is providing him a lot of fun. I think you will really enjoy a red dot on your great looking new MK III.

I took a Mueller red dot off of one of my 10/22's ... just to try it on my 22/45 and it worked so good I never took it off. It was <$100 and works like a charm. And, if you have a 10/22 it works good on them, too.
Another is the Bushnell trs-25 for a short tube type dot sight.

One nice thing about red dot sights is, after zeroing, if you can see the dot that's where the bullet hits. There is no eye relief or parallax problems with them.
