Shortly after I bought my Ruger MARK III 22/45 Model Number: 10107 with molded grips they came out with Model Number: 10140 that has replaceable grip panels, DANG-IT ! Not wanting to spend a few hundred dollars on another pistol just to get removable grips I decided to do the grip modification, I could have attempted it myself with a Dremel as many others have, instead I shipped my lower to a guy in Ohio that mills the lower, then drills, taps, and bonds in a set of 1911 style grip bushings. Price was $77.00 which included the milling, bushings, grip screws, grip (Hogue # 82080) and return shipping. Now I have many options for grip panels, Yee-Haw. ((( Sad Face ))) It took him 2 months to get my lower back to me. Anyway, the quality of work he did is awesome ! Sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures ...

Nice!
In the beginning, Ruger did the molded grip thing to keep costs down. But, many folks wanted to change things, and Ruger listened. Hence the different model. Custom guys get work that makes the manufacturers look at things,,,!

Well thank god for the guys that customize, I never liked the grips Ruger puts on the model with the replaceable panels anyway, so in the long run I am glad with what I have, color me crazy but I like having something very different then the rest of the pack.

You're so right. The Ruger Mark III 22/45 RP's have some pretty thin grip panels. My paws are not all that big, but I do like a thicker grip, and as long as I'm at it, I make 'em a bit thicker so I can hang onto these horrendous kickin' pistols.

My son purchased his 22/45 not knowing about the inability to change grips. He was pretty bummed and was considering selling it at a loss to upgrade.

Luckly I found a smiliar thread and hooked him up with the same guy in Ohio. Two week turnaround after about a month of conversation I believe. But the work was awesome. And he even had a few other tweaks done to his 22/45 to improve its ability. Thanks for sharing for others!
