I went to a local gun store and they said Ruger isn't making the Mini 30's anymore? It's still on their site, but I just wondered if anyone heard anything like this? Thanks.

We just got two in at our shop, so gotta say yeah, they are still making them.
I have been shopping locally for a new stainless Mini 30 for over a year, and have not found one anywhere.
So they're either making them but still selling them before they hit any shelf, or they're not making them at all. To me, the results are the same.

The trick is to find one that hasn't been "futzed" with. Just give me a plain old wooden stock model. I don't need any folding stock, tactical this or that. :wink:
An update...I'm not convinced Ruger is making any Mini 30's right now.
Since Wednesday, I have called many gun shops coast-to-coast, and have yet to find a single shop that has received one in a great long time. Cabela's (last week) ran a sale price on these Mini 30's, but not a single Cabela's that I talked to has seen one either, but one store said their computer showed one at the Rogers Minnesota Cabela's store. I've spent two days trying to get the gun counter at that store to answer their phone, they never did, but one time I got their voice mail telling me to leave a message. I did so, but they never did call me back. What a way to run a business.
Anyway, just today, I finally found and bought a used one locally. Phew!

I've had the same problem trying to find one. I've been casually looking for about a month and every shop I call says they're on back order but have no idea as to when they'll be in. A few of them did say they had Mini 14's in stock though. Even a recent gunbroker search turned up 4 Mini 30s as compared to 167 Mini 14s. The prices seem to be inching up as well with $800+ bids being made early in the game. Somethings driving demand up and/or supply down. Maybe Ruger is slowing production for some reason.
I know this is an old thread but any update on it? The reason I ask is I was in a Scheels last Friday and was looking at mini 14'. I asked the guy about ordering a mini30 since I knew they could order guns. He said they could not order anything in 7.62x39 even if the rifle was a US made rifle but he wasn't sure why. I really don't think the guy was just blowing me off since I have done business with them before and they have always been helpful.

Why not call one of the Ruger Distributors or better yet Ruger and ask them what the status is?
I had been looking for a stainless Mini 30 for quite some time. In every case, every dealer I talked to has had them on back order and the distributors just could not supply them.
So, are they not available to the distributors, or are the distributors only supplying them to their biggest customers?

My new Mini 30 stainless came in today. I ordered it about a month ago from a small dealer in a small town in Kansas who told me that he can still get them. However, I've been on Cabelas waiting list for 3 months with no call. My best guess is that the good ol' boy employee network is siphoning them away from the big retailers and reselling them on armslist, hence the new ones on there. Similarly, I just bought 5,000 rounds of 22 ammo on armslist from a guy who has a brother at Walmart who was buying them off the truck before they ever made the shelf. He said that was about a weeks worth. :evil: Find a small honest gun shop near you and you may get your gun.
I was thinking the mini-30 shortage sounds a lot like the 22lr shortage.... from what I've heard Ruger is not producing all their guns simultaneously... they rotate a lot of manufacturing...
Ok guys thanks. It just really had me wondering since the guy at the store said they couldn't get one and couldn't get anything in 7.62x39. I'll have to talk to someone else there and start looking at some of the smaller stores around .
I asked the guy who just sold me mine why they were so scarce and he said that since the ammo shortage and resulting price inflation, 7.62x39 is one of the hottest cartridges out there now due to its availability and low price. The Ruger Mini 30 is popular because it wasn't on Diane Feinstein's 157 gun ban list which will inevitably pop up again.
The dealer said it was a good investment so that's what I told my wife and I'm sticking to it. :wink:
