Mini 14 stock disassembly questions

A few questions:

1. How do you remove the stock reinforcement? It seems to hook over the rear of the heat shield and I can't figure out how to remove it without forcing it out. I'd really rather not do that if at all possible.

2. I'm replacing the factory wood stock with a Choat stock like the one pictured below:

Should I install the heat shield in this stock and if so then how do I remove it from the factory stock?

Removing it might cause damage. New parts for the Mini can be had in several locations. Sell your current stock after you get the wood stock together if you don't want it setting around to gather dust. You will need the oprod channel and the re-enforcement bracket for the wood stock. I have bought several at gun shows. Or try Brownell's. kwg

pull the 2 screws on the sides of the stock and both parts can be removed very simple.

the heat shield in the foregrip just pry out... the stock reinforcement part... as above.. remove the two screws, one on each side and pry it out.

If you squeeze the "wings" of the stock reinforcement together slightly, you'll be able to remove it fairly easy.
