Hey everybody. New to the forum here. I am currently working in Iraq and have just purchased my self a new Mini 14 Tactical through Davidsons Gallery of Guns. I have been trying to research an affordable "open" red dot relex type of sight like the BSA Panoramic Illuminated Green and Red Multi-Reticle Sight, that holds zero and can stay true with repeated use and not break the bank. I'm also looking for a rail mount adapter that works with the new tapered barrel Mini's. Biggest problem I have over here is that I can't go down to my local gun shop and do any touchy feely with the sights. I would appreciate any feedback on what you folks might have experience with or seen with either of these. Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum.
Most of the cheap holo sights I've seen have been made in China, and don't have a great reputation. I've seen web pages where Chinese tube-style red dots were disassembled and examined, and they're a joke. Taped wires, etc.
OTOH, there are lots of people that use them on rimfires with no issues. There's a lot less recoil there, of course.
If I were going to get one I'd probably go for a 'known' brand, and hope I got a good one. Browning sells one, obviously rebranded from someone else, and probably still made in China, but at least you'd have a real company behind you if you had a problem with it.
The alternative, of course, is the multi-hundred dollar Trijicons, etc.
I can't address the rail adapter, which is why I didn't reply to this earlier.

Check Cabela's website. They sell a variety of scopes including red dots. Tasco and BSA both make them. They are not expensive and not Chinese. Hope it hepls.
Hey Gents, I appreciate the responses. As I have been researching, I've come to that same conclusion about the cheaper stuff. I think I've settled on a Burris XTS-135 red dot. The reviews I've read are for the most part very good. Durable and holds zero. As for a rail I found the "utg-mini-14-3-point-locking-double-rail-tactical-mount-mnt-214d" at optics planet that should elevate the sight high enough to still utilize the BUIS.
