I wonder how much bigger a Ruger Mini-308 would be from the Mini Thirty .....

Seems like my Springfield M1a 308 is Yuuuge compared to the Ruger 7.62x39

I just ended up buying a new Mini 14 Ranch Rifle. Any local retailers who had used Mini 14's wanted almost as much for them as a new in box gun and the private party sellers were offering guns that had been monkeyed with or modified to make them tacticool.

While I generally feel that older productions guns like Rugers, Smith & Wessons and Colts are made better, from what I understand the newest Mini 14's have the accuracy issues that hampered the older guns addressed so I'd rather spend a few hundred extra than to attempt to modify or tune an older, used gun.

Ruger tried a mini GI back in the early 90's. 308 and 243. I saw one at the shot show that year. Didn't pan out. Accuracy was worse than Mini 14.

I always loved Ruger's Mini's but getting a good one I guess can be a real gamble.
There use to be a cottage industry of folks accurizing and also producing parts to improve the accuracy of Mini 14s.
Not sure if any of them are still around or how effective their work or products were.

From a cost standpoint ARs are much cheaper to get an accurate rifle out of the box, I think.

Lots of interesting stuff on that Mini-14 Forum epags.
Reading through several of the postings I was not left with a warm and fuzzy feeling.
