Folks last Friday i attempted to make a purchase using our purchase departments computer program. To tell you the truth, im not computer savvy... Ive always maintained that if what I have doesn't help catch more fish or kill more quail, I dont need it. I was told where I could find the "window" to start the process. Well, 2 hours later I still couldn't find it; so I went to our super efficient admin assistant( who is woefully overworked and under paid, but highly appreciated) and relayed my plight .... She then handed me a 31 page pamphlet, which describes the procedure. 2 hours later I still cant find the "window" to start........ Many years ago one simply filled out a sheet of paper and sent it in to the purchasing dept. I had no idea a that my present job would require a degree in computer science. All this does is gum up the works....I never felt so mad and helpless as I did that day... I live my life very simply. I dont ask for what others consider necessities. I drive a diesel pick up with NO ELECTRONICS, carry a revolver, shoot a 12 gauge pump, and build furniture with hand-tools, further when I build a floral carved holster it gives me a great deal of pleasure to know, there aint no dad blasted computer can copy my work,,,,,,,, I know the computer age is here , but why do these edumicated, idjits go ago to great lengths in making something simple so complex??? whats the point, can anyone tell me?????? When I retire in 6 years my man cave will have sign that reads:

" NO: LIBERALS , COMPUTERS, ROMANCE NOVELS, cRAP MUSIC, OR TALKING BAD ABOUT JOHN WAYNE! "

I may have to move to the Big Bend area of Texas to do this................................................rant over

Now you fully know why I HATE windowz (I call it winderz). It is a set of programs
built to have your management think they need to buy more programs from
micro-shaft (Billie gates).

The main problem is that most people that call themselves a programmer, are
marginal (at best) coders (lowest ability level, programming person). Thus the
"programs" they create are made to simplify THEIR efforts and not yours.

Good luck with your tasks. :D

My admin assistant is already over loaded i just dont want to bother her with her workload.... I just fail to see why it takes a 31 page dissertation just to order some supplies... It would be so much quicker it they used a different format.... But when the vendors sell you on a product, who does it benefit? Not me! What really tears me up is to see a young man carrying a Ipad look at the flat tire on his car in the parking lot, turn around and asks his girlfriend" do you know what to do?" 15 Minutes later a wrecker shows up and the wrecker driver changes out the spare tire for this 20 something year old male..... what is this world coming to?

...and yet, one rants on a computer.

Seems we have forgotten how to find the best person of responsibility, and then write a paper note/letter detailing the failure mode, etc.

Please follow up here with your struggle and resolution.

The health care field has been taken over by the computer! It takes five times longer to pass meds, chart, etc. The computer information is for the doctors, and the bean counters! Not the patient or the nurse ( in case anyone wants to know why I retired 2 years early!). The computer is romanced, not the patient. I go to see my doctor, who is on the computer the whole time, and rarely looks at me! I deliver flowers to patients in hospitals, and see the same thing happening there too. It is a crying shame!

One of my friends (an old goat like me) has a son-in-law who actually rented a car for several days because he didn’t know how to deal with a flat tire on his Mercedes.

Unfortunately this nitwit has reproduced.

I must agree wholeheartedly! I used to have blood-work done and go by the hospital the next day and pick up the results. Now they will send them to you electronically. . .except the process to 'log on' is so complicated and must be redone EACH visit that it still is easier to simply walk in the the hospital records area and pick up the results. I have mentioned this 'process' with numerous individuals at the hospital and must have missed the one that wrote the program.

mojavesam, I just told my admin assistant what i wanted to order on a piece of paper , simple enough. But a 31 page dissertation on how to order simple supplies? I dont think I should have to learn computer speak to learn how to open the page to order supplies.....it defeats the purpose as it were. I liken this to driving to Fort Worth Texas, I dont have to drive to El Paso first. I drive to Fort Worth straightaway. Keep it simple!. I still dont know where to go to open the "order supply" page. What will happen if my Admin assistant is ill???? I thank God I can still operate most of my belongings without the use of a computer. Am I a dinosaur?? Perhaps, I can still enjoy my Rugers without the use of a computer!!!!
