Mike Venturino

There is a thread on the Colt Forum about long time gunwriter Mike Venturino being under hospice care.

Mike was a prolific author of magazine articles and wrote several books.

I am confident many members on here read some of Mike's work.

Mike was known as MLV on the Colt Forum.

Guys, I'm still hanging in there. Bedridden and unable to walk but one of the drugs they are plying me with is strengthening my heart. The doc said today that if I left today i might not survive the two hour drive home but if I will stay here a couple more days they can send me home with that drug. It might give me a few weeks. I met Mike at the Whittington Center during a Black Powder cartridge rifle competition. I was spotting for my friend Alfred and Mike was shooting next to him on the line.
Cool guy who really knew a lot of details about the guns and ammo being used by competitors.
May he walk his path in soft moccasins

As a young man I always looked forward to

came across.

Mike's "How to" reloading and bullet casting
articles captivated me and advanced my
skills. Sharing his ideas definitely made me
into the competent reloader I am 40 years
later.

I think that he is very underrated as a writer. He seemed to come into shooting and reloading as most of us do, I enjoy all of his articles in Rifle and Handloader, even if it about something that I am not real interested in. He is quick to give credit to other people, tells when he tries something different and it doesn't turn out like he had hoped, You do learn more from mistakes, not an Elmer Keith wannabe. WOW! I'm deeply sadened by this news. I never had a steady diet of Mike's articles, but did enjy his comments on Single Action revolvers and western holsters.

Sorry to hear this. I too have his books and read a lot of his articles. His work on lever guns has helped me enjoy, this part of the shooting sports even more.

Recall so many that are now gone like Skeeter, son Bart, P O Ackley, Jordan, Elmer Keith. Enjoyed Rick Jamison articles but have not read anything from him recently. Shooting Times and Guns&Ammo have always been favorite reads.
