I just have Medicare A and B and may get an Advantage plan (I know tomorrow is the last day for open enrollment).

What plans do some of you have...likes/dislikes ?

Your plan will run in the neighborhood of $175 a month depending on coverage. Most of the companies that have a health plan also cover medicare with advantage and advantage plus programs. I would contact the company you had your health insurance through before retiring and see what they can offer. I had Kaiser Permanente for many years and just used them for my Advantage plus plan. The cost to me is about $170. I like the coverage.... especially the silver sneakers which is free with the advantage plus program. Shop around for the one that fits your needs. I do recommend advantage plus over advantage. Good luck with your choice!

I have the Blue Cross Plus Blue.

I cannot compare pricing to others due to some medical issues, age and other things that get me a different rate for it.

It does include prescriptions and my co-pay is:
$3.35 max. on any generic.
$25 for normal doctor office visits
$35 for specialists

then of course they only cover about 80% of anything so the rest is on me.

I am happy with it.

As an employer I have a Health Policy for all of my employees that I provide. Two former employees, who have retired, were each able to obtain Humana Medicare plans to cover their needs for no cost to them at all. They are happy with their plans that they have had for some years.

I am under difficult odd circumstances. When I retired I was single. After retirement I remarried to a much younger woman, (17 years). I had a lifetime medical limit which I just used up. I am 77 and she is 60 but in poor health. I retired in california and without checking out medical moved to Utah that doesn't have HMO`s, no Kaiser etc. For wife to get insurance I have to keep my cheap company insurance up, only $10 a month but hers is something like $1,200 a month! It runs us about $250 or $300 a month more than I get for my 35 year service at Lockheed! Of course I have medicare but I just got out of the hospital with a four day stay bill plus procedures coming up with zero secondary insurance. It will be aprox 20% of the bill we have to cover out of pocket. I had two different insurance guys working on it that couldn't figure out a better plan than I have. My company wouldn't give me a letter of refusal of insurance to try something else as the lifetime medical was raised about $35,000 so I will be insured again after the 1st of the year. I shudder to think how much we will owe on this last hospital stay. What is, is! That Merle Haggard song, "If we can just make it through december" was wrote just for me! Everything that ever happened bad to me my entire life always happened in december!

Several of my preferred doctors do not accept HMO plans, and most restrict me to one hospital, so I elected to go with a supplement and separate prescription plan. Has worked pretty well for us for now.

I might go that route.

I only have Medicare A and B. I tried one of the “free” advantage plans that “ covered” my meds, yeah right! I paid $300/ month on that “ free” plan so I canceled! So I tried one where I paid $150/month. Same problem with meds. I pay for my own meds at $1,000/year now. I see the doctor every six months-$60/visit. I refuse all meds that haven’t been on the market for more than 10 years for safety, and cost issues. I also refuse all narcotics. Unless it is life and death, I refuse all surgeries (malignant hyperthermia). I refuse hospitalization. I can nurse myself thank you very much. So far so good. Good luck greygun!

I don't know anything about the advantage plan, but I have Silver Script RX insurance for $19.60 per month and well worth it for me. I have Aetna Plan G ($134.78 per month) which covers $100% of any outpatient services after a $185 deductible. Plan G if much less $ than Plan F which they all try to sell you because the seller makes more if you buy Plan F.

United Healthcare, plan F. No deductibles, no co pays, the wife had 2 major spine operations and we paid nothing for either one.

I highly recommend it.

Ka6otm, wife and I have the same coverage. 2 major operations, aortic valve replacement, aortic aneurysm, also cancer requiring surgery, kemo, radiation and several not so major adventures. All taken care of.

I just signed up for Medicare last evening. Since I have insurance through my wife's employer I won't need part B or any of the other parts until we retire.

We've been blessed to always have excellent insurance. Funny to think that right now our insurance costs us nothing. Yet if I had gotten part A at this time I would then be out almost $200 a month. Fortunately, when my my wife retires her retirement medical benefits should cover the costs of the other parts of Medicare.

Through this entire process I ran into a number of "experts" from the City of L.A. that had no clue how to answer my many questions. Yet, a single call to Medicare and another to my current provider answered them all quickly and correctly. I guess it comes down to the motivation of the employees.

Way back in 2008 (before the democrats took away choice) , we had more than 155 health insurance carriers to choose from. Good (BCBS and even Aetna full coverage) group insurance could be had for less than $140/month for a working person with a family.

The democrats and their supporters reduced our choices to four carriers.

"You have to pass it, to see what's in it"
Yes, a democrat actually said that on the record. Not a single republican elected voted for the AHC act, now federal law.

Some us remember.

I have blue cross and Medicare A. A $10,000 broken arm cost me about $200. A $10,000 stomach emergency for the wife cost $1000 (she has no Medicare yet). Both just in the last 2 months!

The actual quote is "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy". Its not quite as mindless as the oft-incorrectly quoted and out of context version. However that doesn't take away from the fact that the ACA has irreparably damaged the already broken health care system.

I am waiting to see what I am billed. I just got out of a 4 day hospital stay. I do have medicare but had Aetna as a subsidiary. Just before I went in to emergency I got a letter from Atena that my lifetime medical limit was used up and am no longer insured for the year. Bottom line was the lifetime medical was raised at the beginning of 2019 so will be okay in 2019 for another $35,000 worth. I only pay less than $20 a month for mine to make my wife eligible for my non employed much younger wife get the insurance BUT for her it`s about $1,300 a month!! That's far more than my 35 year pension from lockheed is! I had medication that ate a hole in my stomach and almost bleed to death.

Wow, it would be nice if you told us what that medication was in case any of us are taking it.

I guess that's why a lot of medications come with the warning "take with food".

Cary C, it was from taking xarelto and meloxicam together. I started pooping creosote and then googled it and found where taking the two together is a no no. I got weak and the wife took me to emergency. They did tests through both ends and told me the exact thing I had just googled. This happened the day after thanksgiving. They held me four days, took me off Xarelto (a blood thinner) and the meloxicam (for arthritis). Put me on iron pills to build my blood back up. Trouble is I don't know if I am still pooping blood as the iron pills makes the stool black too. Am still weak.
