OK, I've heard that the Ruger 22's can be kind of picky on ammo. I have a bunch of Winchester, Federal, and Remington, bulk packs. I especially hear of Remington GB being the worst. I recently picked up 2 bulk packs of CCI Blazer, (not mini-mags). Anyone ever shot these, and if so, how did they go through the Ruger? triker

I have a MKII that has no issues with the CCI Blazer and Federal value packs. The Remington will typically function without much of an issue but they seem to gum up the gun after a couple hundred rounds. The Winchester bulk ammo has been a non starter for all of my .22 firearms.
The best thing you can do is do a 250-500 round break in with higher quality ammo to loosen up the pistol (CCI velociter is my preference for that duty). Then just try out different brands. I know most guys get the best result out of Federal bulk ammo.

I have a 22/45 MkIII that has fired any ammo I have fed it. To date, I have shot:
Winchester Super-X high Velocity
Winchester Super-X standard velocity (T22).
Federal Gold Medal standard velocity
CCI Blazer bulk ammo
All four of those loads have functioned flawlessly in my gun. My next round I will be shooting will be the Federal Champion bulk pack. But I do not have reason to believe that they will not feed properly. As far as your question, the CCI Blazer bulk ammo works great! Myself and another rugerforum member, Iron Mike Golf, have shot the CCI blazers in both my 22/45 and his MkII (or was it a Standard??) and they functioned perfectly. They also were quite accurate for bulk ammo as well.

Ranger, I probably will be taking the 22/45 to the range this week and I will bring along some of my Champion bulk pack. Mind you, this is not the 550rnd Wal-mart bulk pack. Rather it is the 525 "everybody else" bulk pack. Of course, I am also aware that the wal-mart load and the everybody else load are supposed to be equivalent.ranger1 said:

I've shot about two boxes through my MKIII with no problems. It's accurate enough to use for casual competition, I use it in a pistol league. It burns fairly clean which is important to me, once I start shooting a league the gun doesn't get cleaned unless absolutely necessary. I cleaned after shooting 6 weeks and a lot of practice, but we also shot some other ammo out of it one day at the range.
I just bought a box of the Federal Champion 525 to a box, can't recall the load number, but I'm sure it's the same one you guys are referring to. Interested to see how it does.

I have shot literally 1000`s of the Federal bulk pack 22 s, never had one not go BANG. Also they feed great thru my MK lll. The Remington golden bullets , I will have about 1 in 20 not fire. Not sure what the deal is , although it has a good strike on it. :)

Among the bulk pack, Walmart 550 is the best for all my MKII,III and 22/45.
Rem 550 is good but really dirty and does gum up big time.
Not as consistenly load as Fed 550.
More umps than Fed 550.
Win 333/555 causes stovepipe. Just doesn't sit in the mag correctly.
Win Xpert - silver/gray 500 rnds box lead round nose - much better than Win 333/555 but causing leading if barrel gets hot.
Blazer 500 LRN - got some but has not tried them.

Shot about 60 rounds of the 525 value pack yesterday, had 1 FTF, no FTE or jams of any kind.

The lubricant used on .22's is what I blame for most FTF issues I've had. Cheap ammo (especially Federal and some "store" brands) are particularly adept at gumming up the Ruger .22 autopistol magazines until the bullets are "dragged" down and mis-feed until the mags are disassembled/cleaned.
Then they do well again until they are "crudded" up again.
Never had a problem with ANY copper-plated Rem/Win/Fed/CCI or "dry-lube" ammo in that regard...usually it's the plain lead, cheap stuff.

well I have had exelent luck out of my mkIII heavy bbled gun I have shot several 1000 rounds through it with absolutely no problem. It's the first ruger 22 auto pistol that hasn't hung up any and I have owned many of them. This mkIII has never had a problem at all. I was so pleased with it's performance I went and bought another one today. I havent tried it yet wating on the paint to dry on the front sight. I buy bulk ammo at walmart almost every trip and have a wide variety of brands. I buy whatever they have in stock. federal some remington and winchester. The heavy bbl isn't bashful it eats whatever you feed it with no problem. The one I bought today is a mkIII with the small 4" bbl. Like the old standard before the MK's. It even has the fixed sight.

Ranger, I shot about 100-120 rounds of that 525rnd Federal Champion bulk ammo. So far, everything went well. Not one FTF, FTE, or any other hiccup. When it comes to feeding and digesting ammo, my 22/45 is battion a thousand right now.
I have decided though to knock on my wooden desk in hopes it stays that way! :)
