I talked my friend into a Mark3 Hunter today, and when we went to the range, it shot high, with rear sight adjusted as low as it will go. The pistol has the fiber optic front sight with a post and V rear sight. I'd say it shoots about 3-4 inches high at 25 feet. We have tried every sight picture, with no success. Any ideas? Thanks!

I tried a variety, from hyper velocity to standard. The point of impact was different for each type, but all were high. I am really perplexed. By the way, pistol shoots great groups and feels great in the hand. 4.50 barrel. Thanks for your post!

Welcome !!

Are you sure you are eyeing up the sights right?

Rare to find the adjustment fully turned yet still off

My son had this issue till he understood how to use the rear to front sight alignment correctly

Thanks again for the help. Xsales, I'm like you, I've never owned or shot any handgun where it wasn't human error when someone couldn't get it to hit the bull. Unfortunately, we are aligning sights correctly. I even tried a 6 o'clock hold to get poi lower.
If I align the rear and front sight so that the front fiber optic dot disappears below rear V, I can get close, but that is a terrible way to shoot, ie. Not seeing your front sight.
It seems that rear sight has bottomed out too soon when I lower it. I do agree with you though, it seems impossible that Ruger would make a gun that can't be zeroed. I'm going to call them today for yucks. Larry

Mcduffsig,
I have a MKIII Hunter with a 6 7/8" barrel. I had the exact same problem.
I contacted Ruger and explained the problem. The gentleman that I talked to said there was a couple of things I could do. First I could take a triangle Jeweler's file and cut the bottom of the v-notch a littlie deeper. Once you have the desired depth you can either paint the area of the v-notch that you filed or you can color it with a black magic marker. The second choice which is the one I chose is to have Ruger send you a new v-notch sight blade with a lower cut in it. It took 4 days for me to receive the new sight blade and it was free. Had the same problem with a SRH 44 mag. with the same fix. Ruger has the best customer service that I have dealt with.
