Mark III 22/45 Open Sights

I am considering changing the open sights on my 22/45 for shooting Steel Challenge. I am old and slow, so take that into consideration. I am looking hard at the Hunter sights, with the Hiviz front sight and the v rear. Although, it is not as precise as the partridge sights, it would seem to be quicker.

If you shoot this game please give me some advice.

I mainly use a gun with a red dot, but my iron sight one is a 22/45 with a 6 7/8" fluted bull barrel, its the Hunter model I believe. Anyway, I have the factory rear with a Hi Viz front and it works pretty well. You can change out the F/O with different colors and sizes so it works for both precision and fast shooting. Its a lot easier to find than the standard black front sight.

That's what I'm running here on my 22/45RP also, the HiViz with the green pipe is great for my 62 year old eyes.
From what I've read the V rear hasn't been real popular with the users. Can't remember how many posts I've read from guys asking how to change out the V sight for a std on their Hunter models. You might want to consider putting in the one with the white outline, or just painting the in the groove on the factory blade.

I use the green Hi-Viz front sight on a few of my MK series guns. I have also used them during informal USPSA styled single-stage matches. We had a Master Class USPSA shooter in our club who when he used his race gun, the club would buy the dinner of anybody who cleanly beat him. (It didn't count if he had gun issues.) All classes of guns tried it. Out of about 5 years of weekly matches, the club bought dinner 4 times. Twice to a very good shooter with a limited gun, and twice by me. I was using my MKII with Hi-Viz sights. I had to reload more often, but the low recoil made shooting faster, and I was able to keep my hits in the "A" zone. (I was scored as 'minor" due to it being a 22.) I did have some 14 rnd Ram-Line mags I used some. But the sights helped me a BUNCH!!!!!

Minor scoring doesn't matter in the 'A' zone.

That's why I would win sometimes!!!! Seriously, I'm a "B" class shooter in Ltd 10, and I beat a Master class with his race gun with mine twice. I also came close several other times. The club quit the offering shortly before I added my Crimson Trace laser. I would have really enjoyed a few more dinners,,,!

I actually prefer the target sights over the hunter sights. But I don't know for sure if the target sights will work on a 22/45. I guess they would.

I like a longer barrel, it makes seeing the sights and plates easier for me.

Just purchased my first MK III 22/45 this week, but was able to shoot many models free at my local gun club. Found all guns incredibly accurate. The Hunter HiVis sights seemed to work best with my 64 year old eyes. Purchased a MK III 22/45 stainless with 5.5" bull barrel. I plan to at least change the front sight to HiVis , but would prefer to keep the adjustable rear sight.
