I have a Mark II Competition model and I need to mount a Red Dot sight on, which has a Pickatiny base. The Ruger came with a factory supplied loose Weaver (?) mount. I do not know much about the technical side hence my silly question: Is there an adapter to allow the mounting of the Pickatiny base on the Ruger rail or is there a Pickatiny rail to fit my Ruger?
Your help will be appreciated.

It SHOULD go right on your Ruger base that came with the gun. It is a Weaver design and they are supposed to interchange. Have you tried it on the base you have?

Thank you for your prompt reply; after reviewing the responses and doing some research on the internet to get an idea what a Weaver rail is, I realized - to my embarrassment - that what I have is not a Weaver rail but the Ruger scope mount base (part A07000) and two scope low rings (parts S100RL) and the necessary hardware (screws). I have been using this setup with a scope but I would like switch over to a red dot sight (my eyesight is not as good as it was). The Ruger scope mount base has lateral cutout to clear the ejection opening in the receiver.
The question now - is there a Weaver/Picatinny rail to fit Mark II ?
I could not find anything like this on the official Ruger website.

YES, it comes with a Weaver rail, and you have it mounted on your Ruger pistol with a scope on it. Take the scope off, and leave the rail that is now on your Ruger. Replace the scope with the Red Dot sight, and go shooting.

Actually, the MKII Competition Target model didn't come with the Weaver mount, it came with the Ruger scope system. HOWEVER,,, you can go down to the local gun shop, look into their selection of Weaver bases, and you can find one to fit. I have a short Weaver (part of a two piece base set,) base mounted on mine to use the Tasco Optima red dot.

The MKIII's came with the Weaver type bases.

I just bought a Ruger brand, Weaver scope base for my MarkII,
Part# A07052B $18.95 from a local shop. Mount, with screws, no cutout, but no problem.
Looks like this, but black; http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=RM2FD&Category_Code=VC2

Racer9 is correct in that you can go & buy a Ruger marked Weaver base for your MKII. They offered it after they produced the Competition Target model. It's a currently available part.
