Mark I mag question

I just purchased a Mark I target in excellent condition. I'd like to get a spare mag for it, and I've read here and there that 10 shot Mark II mags will fit it. Is this true? Sorry if a noob question, and yes I searched first.

First, Welcome.
Yes, the Mk II mags will fit, but you may have to disassemble the mag and change the follower button to the other side. In my experience, it's just better to use the Mk I mags in that gun. They are available from Ruger. http://shopruger.com/Ruger-Mark-I-Blued-Magazine-9-Shot/productinfo/90062/

I have a RST-6 with A-100 frame. Recently I purchased a Mk II magazine to use with it. The Mk II magazine will go into the grip, but it is a bear to get out. It will pop out when the mad release is activated, but I need to jiggle and pull on it to get it out. It is probably catching on something. Maybe it will work itself out after use.

When Ruger first started building the semi's,, the early mags held 9 rounds,, and the follower button was on the right. These frames are the A-54 design. When they had the dies for the frame wear out,, they swapped sides of the follower button,, & use that side to this day. These frames are of the A-100 design.
FORTUNATELY,,you can use MKII 10 round mags in the older guns. All you have to do is swap the side that the follower button is on if it doesn't already fit your gun. 22/45 & MKIII mags will not work for you.
As for mags sticking,, it's not a common issue.

My pistol was made around 1979, so the follower button is on the left. It is so little used that it is tough to get the mag out - the release is very tight. Mag moves in the well freely but the release will need some breaking in. Fortunately I'm headed to the range tonight, and there might be someone there with a MKII I can try.

Get yourself a Ranch Products extended release and replace the old one. A flick of the finger and out it will come.
