Manhunt in my county

In progress now (9PM CST) 3 suspects involved, 2 of which reported to be in custody. Third armed suspect still at large on foot in a large Conservation Area. Night vision/thermal equipped air craft on site but heavy forest cover may thwart that advantage. Within 5 miles of Tom's place but across some very rough country(by MidWest standards). His family is forted up but refused my offer to respond.
Possible LEO shot( or maybe just shot at).

Just talked to a farmer who lives just east of the area where the chase began and this situation may have been going since mid-afternoon. I noticed a SHP parked in a spot where he could watch both east and west bound vehicles on the main hiway close to this area as I was returning home around 4-4:30 PM.
Tom should be getting home about now which will ease my mind a bit. I'm headed not too far from this area first thing in the morning on a work assignment but things should be resolved by then. Most likely the suspect will run out of water. The creeks are dry and ponds are pretty scummy so even a real desperado may give it up rather than go thirsty for long.

Divergent item:
SIL got involved in a stolen Ambulance around noon. Mope found one
idling outside the hospital ER door, jumped in and drove off.

SIL got a copy of the video of the ER door and they picked the guy out
very quickly. They asked the ER people who he was and they said "OH,
that's Billy-Joe-Bob (not his actual name) thus all of his info was right
there. The Ambulance has a GPS tracker on and working, so in thirty
seconds LE knew where he was and direction of travel. Mope in custody
in less than five minutes after he stole the Ambulance (no one hurt). 8)

Let's hope the OP ends up that well. :D

It would look like a lightly colored (and contrasted) area with straight lines...which is a dead give away because there are no straight lines in nature.

Sorry to say, the mope/perp/suspect escaped unscathed despite the efforts(?) of 3-4 county Sheriffs' Departments, State Hwy Patrol, and ??. Claims of capture of 2 suspects were erroneous. The only thing caught was a duffle bag of contraband and an abandoned car. Sometime mid-morning, the primary suspect(the guy with the actual warrant) was found in a farmer's barn about 2-3 miles from the last known location. After a non-violent confrontation with the resident, the suspect took off and hasn't been seen since.
Everyone locally is voicing an absolute vote of "no confidence" in the performance of the local law enforcement one and all.
One of the problems involves the apparent attempt to hide the situation. The resident(an older guy) who confronted the suspect had no idea of what was going on or who the trespasser might have been because the local fuzz didn't issue a "general alert" on our local TV station. What would have happened if the suspect had been aggressive and injure/killed the resident? Would the fuzz have said "Boy, I wish we'd notified the area of this potential problem"? I could go on and on but would just be wasting my time.

Goodly number of years back LEO's chased a bad guy who had robbed a store and shot a few folks into a sub division somewhere down near myrtle beach then they informed either by phone or such all the people in the area that this armed and dangerous person was about and to lock all their doors and hunker down... I know one guy who though about if for a minute and went out and opened his garage door... left the light on and put his car keys in the ignition and went back in side his house.. he figure the bad guy would come, steal the car and take off and he could call the cops and let them know but one thing was for sure, the bad guy would be out of the sub division.... away from his family...

It's been about 3 days now. If he boosted some wheels he could be a couple thousand miles away by now.

Speaking of things like this, they still haven't found the shooter that whacked Bush's doctor. The local PD has said they think it likely was a targeted hit. If so the guy was probably a pro and is long gone.

When I lived in Searcy county Arkansas, there was a pair of fugitives running loose in the Buffalo River Nat'l Park lands in real hot humid weather. After 3 days one walked out of the boonies and surrendered, covered in chiggers and ticks, said he had to leave his buddy who had been bitten by an unseen copperhead or rattlesnake in the dark. Cops found that guy with a foot swollen up the size of a football, also covered in chiggers and ticks. Both told the cops that the escape plan was a really bad idea.

The Media outlets all employ folks whose sole function is to listen in on the radio traffic of their area First-Responder community........and then notify that media outlet when anything happens that might warrant their immediate coverage. The LE community learned a long time ago that unless an offense was of such a heinous nature.......or was ongoing/in-progress.... with bullets flying and cars crashing......or the offender was barricaded up, with hostages or the means to do damage to multiple buildings at the same time......... trying to get information out to the effected area(s) ......... in a timely manner .......... was pretty much a useless exercise. Between the Internet, Cable TV and cellphone addictions, only a fraction of any particular coverage area would ever get the word from a Station that would interrupt it's (money making) programing for such a "pedestrian" occurrence. Unless it was waaaaaay out in the sticks, it would possibly receive some amount of coverage on the regular TV and Radio news casts.......again IF the intended recipients could pry themselves away from their Internet, cellphone, Oprah, Ellen, The View, and lest we forget ......insert soap opera here...... and make some attempt to keep themselves aware of happenings in their own community.
It is a sad little world we have created.........

Well Sir , this really is "waaaaaay out in the sticks" and there is a considerable percentage of the citizens who don't have internet or cell phones and the ONLY contact with the rest of the world is through radio and local TV. I have basic TV service and it includes a rolling printed notice across the screen giving notice of whatever emergency might occur. It seems easy enough to run such important information w/o even disturbing the soap opera/sitcoms/game shows.

And yet none of those outlets saw fit to tell ya'll much of anything.......like I said, they all have a cadre (in this area they employ disabled shut-in types) that monitor the police, fire and EMS radio channels for just such information ......what they do with it is their decision to make at the time. Had this turned into one of those "heinous acts" that I mentioned, you would have very likely had all kinds of coverage. The old newspaper adage said "if it bleeds, it leads".....and it still pretty much holds true today. :idea:

I guess it's a matter of perception. Here in rural America, we citizens still expect our law enforcement (especially the elected ones) to look out for OUR welfare. As it so happens, the original warrant was written on this suspect for "assaulting a police officer" and the charges were bumped up when during the mentioned chase, the suspect (or someone in his vehicle) fired at pursuing officers.
The local TV station and my TV provider often run weather alerts, Amber alerts, or "other" important breaking news items but information about fugitives on the run is specifically ignored. This has been quite apparent for several years.
A tornado 50 miles away or an Amber alert 200 miles away crosses the screen every 5 minutes for an hour.
A violent criminal on the run 5-10 miles away gets NOTHING.
I haven't decided whether the lack of information is an attempt to prevent locals from flooding the area to "help" or fear that some "on-the-ball" farmer will make the fuzz look bad by capturing the suspect w/o LEO assistance. There's a LOT of arrogance involved either way.
Keep in mind this isn't "big city" and stuff isn't locked up 24/7. Given the information to do so, most farmers would make an effort to secure vehicle and equipment keys to reduce the opportunity for a suspect to acquire another source of escape and maybe round up all the scattered potential weapons. Without the information, it's simply a pick and choose what the runner wants/needs in his evasion plan.
In this particular case, the cops weren't going to catch the suspect by racing around the backroads since all the guy had to do was step off the road when he heard them coming. Same with the aircraft. The suspect couldn't have managed a crosscountry escape due to the nature of the terrain so he just walked up the road until coming to an outlying barn while the cops burned gas and tires chasing a shadow.
