After reading the post in the thread Stupid People Doing Stupid Things with Guns .
I have wondered about all of the stuff that fell from the sky's over Europe during WWII. I have read a lot and watched a lot of films about the war and air battles over Europe. But nothing about what happened to any of the people on the ground. Just think of all of the stuff that had to rain down, spent bullets, brass, exploded Flak and such. Just think how many pieces fall to the ground when a plane blows up or crashes.
Here you are having Sunday Chicken Dinner in your country house and BANG CRASH a 1000# engine or worse comes thru your roof and lands on your chicken. Now that would spoil my dinner and day :-) Not everyone had or went to bomb shelters.
It seems like every New Years Eve you hear about someone being hurt from spent bullets. What are the odds?? So how many were killed in WWII from the same bad luck?? Makes me wonder.

I understand that many people in Honolulu were killed by basically, friendly fire, when our guys returned fire during Pearl Harbor attack.

A former co-worker told me of his uncle's death on D-Day. He was wounded when he stepped on a small anti-personnel mine. He was evacuated to a waiting hospital ship. As he was waiting on a stretcher on deck to be taken below, he was killed by falling AA fragments.

Was watching one of the History channels the other night and they were showing the sea battle while taking Okinawa. The 'stuff' falling into the water around the ships looked like a heavy rain storm.
