Evening folks ,

Majestic Arms is making a kit to make field stripping the MKIII an easy job. I've looked at it on their web site (www.majesticarms.com ) but just not sure about it. It seems like a good product , anybody buy one....or have it installed ? I would imagine Ruger would frown on using this kit , especially if ya had to send it back for repair.

I like it. I can take down the gun as intended. But it is difficult for me. I am missing a good piece of my thumb on one hand and a piece of the index finger on the other. Makes for slow going with the MKII or anything that requires getting things positioned just right. So I got the kit. Eliminated all the swearing. I pull the grips pull the bolt spray down with gun scrubber let drip out spray with oil and let excess drip out. Clean bore and done.

IMHO, it is a solution to a NON-PROBLEM.

I respect your opinion 66 , I don't really consider it a problem.......but you have to agree the MKIII isn't the best or easiest to field strip , especially when its in a newer condition. And some of us may never actually fire enough rounds to " break it in" ??? I'm of average mechanical ability...usually I have no problems , but I've also had to disassemble it a time or two to get it right.

Mike ,Which kit did you get ? I see from their web site , one of their kits also effects the trigger pull. It mentions something about the magizine disconnect also........Thanks for your input

I have the standard takedown kit in my Mk II government. It was all they offered when I bought it several years ago.

Cannot comment on the new versions. But the standard worked exactly as described and is of first rate quality. Would think their other products would be too.

Mike ,

Thanks , feed back much appreciated. Believe I'm gonna give it a try.

One more question for you... I assume the kit could be removed and old parts reasembled in the pistol ? Just in case I'd have to send it back to Ruger.

jThanks

First off, the owner of Majestic Arms is a personal friend, hunting partner and fellow club member of me here in Staten Island, NY....his speed strip kit for the Mark lll's does everything he says it does...PLUS...it vastly improves both the trigger pull and reduces, if not totally eliminates, depending on the individual weapon, the annoying factory creep....I am a frequent visitor to his shop and have seen him install hundreds of these kits... on my Mark lll, I cannot tell the difference between my S&W M41 and the Mark lll..plus is a breeze when it comes to cleaning your weapon...yeah...I am somewhat biased...but I have seen and handled the results with his speed strip installed...

The Ruger MKI, II, & III can be challenging for someone who hasn't disassembled & reassembled one before. But once you have done it a few times, it is easy. If you want a really good trigger, get a Volquartsen drop in sear and it makes a world of difference. I Googled the following: MAJESTIC ARMS,SPEED STRIP KIT, GOOD, BAD, WORKS, DOESN'T WORK. Here is the result and you can read for yourself:

I bought a used MI-II gov't that a kit installed. Since I was already well versed in MK-II's I didn't see any advantage. At that time I was also still shooting IHMSA. The kit wasn't legal under the production rule so I pulled it. Never missed it. Ten/fifteen years later someone here was looking for one. I told them my experience and they already had multiple replies like hpman66's. I sold it to him cheap. Three weeks later I got a note saying he tried it, didn't see the need and had already resold it to another curious shooter. YMMV

Yes! I've installed 5 of them. You don't loose the ability to strip down completely, including the barrel, the "old way"... With the kit you unscrew the bolt pin, pull the bolt, and clean 99% of the gun. I clean after each shooting and 100% strip and clean once a year. I really don't think Ruger would object to the strip kit because you don't change the designed function at all. HOWEVER, if you get the kit that includes the mag disconnect parts and you install them, they would frawn. In fact, I've heard of guns being returned with disconnect parts put back in with a bill from Ruger. BUT, these MK pistols are so rugged, so simple and easy to work on, that I think it's a rare occurrence to return one for maintenance.

If you should decide to do this and your MKIII is a 22/45 there's one step missing from the instructions. The hammer pin on non-22/45 models is held in place by the grips so it comes right out easily. On the 22/45 the pin has grove around the left end of the pin with a spring hooked over it that hold the pin in the polymer grip frame. You MUST pull that spring up out of that grove before pushing the pin out. If you don't you risk breaking or bending the end of the pin or worse, gouging out the hole in the grip frame. Do not push that pin all the way out...follow the instructions.

If you decide to remove the mag disconnect, while you are at it, find instructions on this forum on converting the MKIII's slide release so the bolt can be released by "slingshot"... From the factory you must use the slide release. On MKIIIs default is lock back.

I have the Majestic kit installed on three MKIIs (my serious hunting autos) and swear by them.

It drops the bolt assy out with a twist of an allen wrench and allows through-rod cleaning in about five seconds. It is in fact the improvement Ruger should have made first, and a long time ago. :)

As far as it being an answer to a "non-problem"; it's pretty easy to see the market. Anyone who dislikes the takedown procedure for Ruger pistols wants one. Put it this way, One can dis-assemble the gun using the Majestic system WHILE STANDING UP in the field. Something I don't prefer to attempt in "standard fashion.

Why does the Majestic Arms kit include the hammer? Their's looks very similar to the stock Ruger hammers. Thanks.
