Hello and thanks for having me. I recently purchased a new 1911 in .45 acp. I love the gun so far, but I noticed while cleaning that one of the mags does not have the black trim piece on the bottom. It's just bare stainless. Is this normal. This is my first Ruger handgun purchase so I have nothing to compare it to. I do have a couple of M77 hunting rifles which are fantastic.

I think my SR1911 came with “one of each” mags too. That was a few years ago and the gun lives elsewhere now.

Welcome

same here ,mine came with one of each style...have others of both styles and they all work just fine, buy good ones, do not "go cheap".........though I know of many of the $9.95 gun show mags , Mil Spec, that also work just fine, so never ,say never....;)

I have several no name OEM mags that came with pistols, sometimes they work just fine, sometimes they don't. It's the 'sometimes' that bothers me, so these are relegated to range time and a failure is an opportunity to practice malfunction drills. For potential self defense needs, I Ioad quality 3rd party mags such as the extended 8rnd Wilson Combat, which are more expensive but work every time.

I bought a Springfield Armory XDM Elite. It came with two mags that would not seat. I complained and C/S sent me two more and told me to keep or sell the first two. I disliked the oversize mag well and removed it. Six months later, I was talking to my brother and noticed the original mags looked the same as the replacements. Turned out they were the same=just won't seat with the mag well in place. I like it better w/o the well in place, so...........I'm fine!!

rubber or plastic base pads protect the magazines when falling free during range quals, matches, etc.

recreational shooters can just use their hands ;)

smooth metal flush fit floor plate mags are popular for concealed carry

finger grip extensions, extended capacity, etc. add more variables - salt to taste

the factory issued mags should run fine but if you experience feed issues based on ammo choices, mag quality control, etc., other premium brands may solve them

McCormick, Tripp, Wilson, etc. all make high quality 1911 mags among several others

I suggest taking it to the range with boxed ammo and see what happens before doing anything

good luck!
