I have two, actually three, periodicals that I enjoy reading, keeping them handy for maybe a month or more, reading and rereading some of the articles.

The first, of course, is the The American Rifleman, journal of the NRA.

The next are Guns of the Old West, and Guns magazine Old West.

Guns of the Old West is primarily about historic guns but also modern reproductions and CAS events. The articles are good, and photography is superb, which I thoroughly enjoy. I do subscribe to this, published quarterly.

Guns Magazine Old West deals more with history and has more vintage photos showing old lawmen.

(I must apologize here as I was interrupted by Nita's calling me to breakfast.)

Also, Guns Magazine Old West features more articles on obscure guns of the period as well as historic firearms from the period. Photography is also of high excellence, and technical data is kept to a minimum, i.e., ballistics, etc.

Both are enjoyable to me on cold winter evenings!

I get as many of my magazines as I can electronically, though I do get nostalgic for the slick paper versions at times.

Somehow, a book or magazine in the hand just seems more comfortable to me than getting them electronically. Push the buttons and the recliner sort of gets me in the right position for reading.

Bob,
Another vote here for printed magazines and books. I cherished ALL books as a kid.

Hi,

I'm one of those people who misses a lot of stuff reading "on screen." It seems not uncommon among people who grew up with paper books, magazines, grocery bags, and a pen or pencil in their hand as they learned to write cursive.

In a way, I feel sorry for those growing up today who will never enjoy some of these experiences, but at the same time, the number of high school kids I run into who actually read paper books on their own, outside of the classroom, is encouraging. There are a couple of pre-1900 books here that are still usable at 120 years old (be gentle, please.) I believe nothing on the computers is ever going to match that longevity when I can't open files that are 10 years old current hardware. Those kids reading paper books today might be learning some valuable lessons for the future!

I used to subscribe to lots of magazines, probably 7 or 8 a month. But when we moved to Texas, the mail never delivered them. I would go months without getting a single magazine. I finally stopped them because of this.

Guns of the Old West has great photography! I buy a copy every now and then from the bookstore.

My dad took Old West magazine for many years. When my mom had a yard sale after he passed away they were the first to get snapped up.

I have no interest in electronic magazine subscriptions even if free.
sometimes a search will lead me to an article that I read.
I read the paper versions.
You can carry them anywhere.

I read some electronic magazines, but it is nothing like holding a nice paper magazine in one's hands. The only gun related one that I receive is the NRA's "First Freedom", and I still get a couple of magazines related to motorcycling. (I used to get 7 or 8 motorcycle mags but most have gone belly up. At least "Rider" is still printed, and as a real magazine.)

I use to buy the Old Sci-Fi Magazines* every month, BUT the price kept going up and up and the newer authors were not worth the price, so I finally gave up on them.

*Analog, etc.

I still totally preferred the real thing vs. electronic, but they got so bad that I gave up.

They kept getting thinner & thinner. Then there would be announcements that would say; read more on line. Had I wanted that I wouldn't have ordered the paper copy in the first place.

They said hard copy would die & I would comment that it wouldn't with me. Well, it did, but not by my hand. The last few months have gun magazine free at my house for the first time in 45 years.

I too prefer to get actual paper magazines & read them. I like to be able to NOT have to sit at a screen,, or carry an electronic device,, to read something. As noted above,, old books & magazines can always be kept long after computer software or whatever changes to where you can't get old stuff.

I used to get a lot more magazines than I do now,, but I still get about 8 of them all the time. Our (3) NRA magazines,, American Handgunner,, Handloading,, Fur, Fish & Game, Backwoodsman, Trapper & Predator,,,, are welcomed here.
Plus,, I often buy individual copies of magazines of different subjects when I see something that interests me.

The fun part,, is that I take them along with me in all kinds of places,, where an electronic device wouldn't be as easy to carry or use.
And heck,, how do you finish an article when the batteries die?

Give me the old stuff anytime.

HOWEVER,,, I did buy a digital CD copy of all of the old Handloader magazines,, from Issue #1 to date a few years ago. JUST to get the older back articles that can be harder to find. On those CD's,, it's just the digital copy of all the pages of the magazine,, advertisements & all.
I think of it as reference material. I started reading them with Issue #1,, and have been reading each issue as it was printed. I'm still not caught up,, and have plenty to read. But I have to be at the computer,, and in the mood to read from it. But when I do,, I often read 1 or even two copies at one sitting.

Yup..... paper magazines only..... The only thing I read electronically is this Forum (and maybe another unmentioned forum).....
Guns of the Old West is a favorite as well.....

I always found nothing more relaxing than a "paper" magazine or newspaper with a cup of coffee and some blues-jazz in the morning. Ahhhh, the yesteryear memories.....

I get a couple of magazines in the mail...the one magazine I read cover to cover at least twice is called Range Magazine. It only comes 4 times a year but it is geared mostly for the Western ranchers.
http://rangemagazine.com/I lend a couple of issues out and they never get returned and that's ok since I guessed that would happen at the time.
