Magazine stuck in Mark!!!

All that I wanted to do was to remove the bolt for cleaning the barrel.
Followed instruction and could not remove the bolt.
Can only retract it about 3/8"!!!!!!
Repeated the proceedure and while removing & inserting the magazine
I put it in backwards. It is now almost all way in and stuck hard.
How can I remove it?

Anytime you "jam" a part in where it doesn't belong, or is disoriented, the only "real" option is to use "reverse force" to take it backout! You can "flood" the mag well with penetrating fluid/kerosene to make it a little easier but there is no "magic" fix for your situation!.......................Dick :wink:

The magazine is mechanically locked in place. Can not force out.
Not going to waste any more time on it.
The gun is on the way back to Ruger.

Sounds like the classic mainspring caught on hammer strut.

Disassemble the gun. With the gun apart remove the mag. Now when reassembling before you install the mainspring tilt the muzzle down slightly and make sure the strut goes in the dimple in the mainsrping before you try to latch it closed.

$20 bucks for the tool is a whole lot cheaper than what shipping your handgun is going to be.

hemeier4799, For future reference, you don't need to remove the bolt to clean the barrel. Simply lock back the bolt and clean from the muzzle. I have been cleaning barrels from the "muzzle" on thousands of firearms over the last 45 years and have yet to screw up a muzzle with this practice. This is a "myth" that will just not go away! Just be sure to use a brass, aluminum or other "soft" rod that will not gouge steel!.........................Dick :wink:

totally agree with Pinecone, same here, AND we are still sitting on and using a LOT of old 'steel ' cleaning rods we've accumulated over the years at Camp Perry, we've got from some of the different services armorers that they use......we ONLY use soft ,brass or aluminum on "competition" grade guns, front or backend, and whatever else for all the other guns and have yet to nick,mar or damage ANY crown...wish I had a "nickel" for every gun that we ever cleaned since the mid 1960's...and thats just ONE gun each, ONE time only, not counting the repeat jobs....yikes I'd be RICH :shock:

The hammer spring housing & bolt were out of the gun.
The "guy" at the gun store that puts guns together from pieces that customers bring in could not get the magazine out.
He thought that it was going to be easy with removal of the grips.
I will let y'all know comments, if any, from Ruger when they return the gun.

I receiveed my MarkIII back from Ruger today.
The return paper listed it as "one time" courtesy repair.
I think that was good of them considering that there was no warranty
issue.
Inserting magazines will be very carefully done in the future.

If Ruger got it out, so can you. I'd recomend learning what catches the mag and figure out a way to release it. The magout looks like a screwdriver of sorts and something that could be easily made.

From my experience with past customers, I'd add a word of "caution" here. I have had to work on (fix), many a firearm that was tackled by the customer before hand with the "right" tool! The problem being that just having the tool in your hand, does not make one an expert on "how" to use it! If you know how to use the tool properly, then by all means, be my guest to do so. If there is "any" doubt at all, then bring the gun to a "competent" gunsmith to figure out and fix! Saves a lot of headaches and "money" (yours), for everyone concerned!.....................Dick :wink:
