Took apart my m77 and am having 2 problems reassembling. First, the bolt won't go in, the back part of the bolt hits the safety. Secondly, I had removed the bolt stop, how do you "reset" the stop?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks.

By hitting the safety, I presume you mean hitting the safety button extending from the tang as you push the bolt back into the action. The safety button can go in two ways. The button is not symmetrical. Turn it around. I doubt that this is your problem as I believe the clearance is adequate either way, but...

Also make sure the bolt shroud is aligned, in other words the bolt has not become "uncocked". The shroud should be positioned horizontally as the bolt is inserted (same plane as the bolt lugs). If the bolt has become "uncocked" you will have to manually re-cock it.

I am having a tough time understanding the "reset" question. The bolt should be removed by removing to the rear and pulling the "bolt" stop lever out (on left side of action). I usually find that the bolt will easily push in past the "bolt stop" (when reinstalling) without even activating the lever. If by reset you mean the stop has stuck in the out position, you need to clean the area and lubricate it so that the stop returns by the installed spring. I may be missing the point, but hope helps.

Thanks for responding. How do you manually re-cock the bolt?
Re the bolt stop, I unscrewed it from the receiver, and when I screwed it back, it doesn't "open". I cleaned it and oiled it, but seems that you have to re-set a spring. Not sure.

I re cock it by getting a soft piece of wood, holding the bolt shroud end up, and placing the cocking piece on top of the edge closest to you, and pulling down while rotating the bolt when the cocking piece is pulled back far enough. You will have to keep the pressure on when turning the bolt. You will see a mall detent where the cocking piece fits in the bolt when the bolt is "cocked". Unless...you are superman and can pull back the shroud and turn the thing with your bare hands.

If you need pictures, let me know, I can do that.

Hey Bronco, thanks for your help.
We'll miss you guys this year, but will see you the following year.
Go MT. West!
UH Warriors!!

I spend a couple weeks in Hawaii every year and go to the Pro Bowl wearing a Bronco T shirt. The Bronco T shirts really strike up conversation. I love the Warrior Fans, although the conversation is of rivals, the talk is great and NOT trash.

BTW, if you have difficulty in getting the shroud to turn while pulling down on the bolt, there is a small hole in the rear of the cocking piece that will be exposed when you pull the shroud back. If you have a small nail you can insert that, and that will allow easier turning of the shroud.

I have a couple of picts.

This shows the cocking piece in the "uncocked" position...

This shows the small hole on the back of the cocking piece where you can insert a nail and then turn the shroud much easier..

Hope helps.

Hi Bronco, your pics really helped a lot. We were able to re-cock the bolt. Thanks again.
