I have a newer production M77 MK II chambered in 243 that I am wanting to do some modification to. I currently has the black synthetic stock that is used with current production rifles. Not a bad stock I just want to go a different direction with this rifle. I have considered going to the old zytel or boat paddle stock but not sure these would be interchangeable? I have also looked into the Boyds laminated stocks or possibly even just keeping the current stock but having it dipped to change apperance. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Any MkII or Hawkeye stock will work for you. If you have a standard all weather 243 , any standard barrel profile short action stock will fit. Same for ultra light models. The only difference I'm aware of are the short mags and saum calibers along with the 350 rem mag. They share the same barrel profile as the other short actions but the magazine well is a fraction wider. I used a laminated stock off of a 243 for my 350. I widened the mag well just a touch and it fit perfectly. Going the other way may give a little slop in the mag well and I'm not sure how that would affect things.

Thats the short of it. Hope it helps some.

Jeff covered the fit part.

I just bought a used SA boat paddle stock in-case. In-case I buy something to put in it.

I was going to do some type of paint job on the 308 synthetic, but the grand kids have already started. Can't change that.

Here are some ideas on custom paint job.
