I have a M77 on my radar that was made in 1978 (tang safety, claw extractor) and it has a Leupold VXII 2-7x32. The gun is chambered in .30-06 and they want $425+tax. I've been looking for a clean Ruger in .30-06 and this looks to be one of the nicer ones I've seen for a while and the scope is a nice deal sweetener too. Probably in 90%-95% condition. Is this a deal to jump on? Who made the barrels on these guns back in 1978 and are there any chronic problems that tend to arise with the older tang-safety Rugers? I like the tang safety myself, but I just want to verify these questions before I buy.

Get on the trampoline and jump. I have noticed the older barrels could be hit and miss as far as accuracy goes, but I never had one that was really bad. I also like a tang safety. The Leupold would be half the price of that outfit itself.

Around here, the rifle alone would be about $450.... and that scope is about $150 used.

You ain't bought it yet ?????

If I was looking for an '06, I'd buy that one, well worth the asking price. You can always make a lower offer.

This seems to be a very fair deal, not a tremendous amount of upside but not going to depreciate any time soon.....and I am only yalking about the rifle. Everyone knows the Leupold story and that makes it a very nice deal. I bought a M77 from 1976 chambered in .243 and could not be happier. Mine was $502 OTD with a Leupold scope. You won't be sorry.

I got it for $424 out the door and I also got them to pull a brand new Harris bipod off another gun on the rack and throw it in as a deal sweetener! This rifle looks nice and feels good, I'm excited to see how it shoots and work up a good load for it. I'll post about it when I get some shooting results. Thanks for the valued input fellas! You guys are the best!
