I did a search here and got back almost 1700 responses so i'll go this route......

At another forum it was mentioned that there were some early M77's in 256 Newton.
Has that ever been discussed here?

For me this is just one of those cartridges that i have a "thing" for....never owned anything chambered for it. It's place in the history of cartridge development i guess is the draw.

That's what i submitted in "only one #1" thread.

Anyway,has this been discussed?

I am aware of only one M77 in .256 Newton that has ever been made. Supposedly, one was also made in .30 Newton for the same individual, a FOB(Friend of Bill). I do not know where the .30 Newton is.
I have a couple of the original .256 Buffalo Newtons and also a .30.
Also have No.1's in .256 and .30 Newton.
I would not hold my breath waiting for Ruger to make it again; if you want one, better have one made yourself.
Good Luck!

Thanx.....appreciate the response.

When were the No.1 Newtons produced?

I read a discussion where the poster was inquiring about a No.1 in 256 Newton in a gunstore. All the responses-except one- blew it off as being an aftermarket barrel. The exception sent the poster a PM asking where the store was since he MIGHT know someone who MIGHT be interested.

:D :D :D

Do you shoot em?

Sorry to lead you to think they were Factory; .256 is a new barrel. The .30 Newton was originally a .30-06, with AH forearm and target scope blocks!!
I just found the barrel all by itself-someone destroyed one of the rarest non-prefix Ruger No.1's ever made!
