M77 Barrel Interchangeability

I have an old-style tang-safety M77 and a new Hawkeye magnum. There are two barrels for sale I'd like to buy to mount on my rifles. The magnum barrel came off an old model and the standard came off a Hawkeye, however. You get the impression from Frank Barnes in Bolt Action Rifles that the threads and breech are the same across all M77s except the VT models with the longer receiver ring. Is that true?

I meant Frank de Hass re: 'Bolt Action Rifles'. BTW, I asked Ruger about barrel thread specs and got a no answer answer lecturing me on sending my rifles back to the factoring for anything and buying everything from the factory only. I guess CYA/liability considerations are paramount.

I recently acquired a .260 77 MkII barrel and my Smith told me it would screw onto a 77 action.
