On another forum there is a post on low cost practice, that you can do in your own
house. It's a Beeman P-17 pellet pistol (Amazon has them for less than $40).

Mine came in this morning (TA-DAAA! I now have a gun, after the boating accident).
It looks a tad clunky, but the trigger is REALLY nice (actually AMAZING).

Still have enough .177 pellets to shoot for a fair while, and I'll keep accumulating
them at one can per some increment.

First three shots at 15 feet, no rest, in the one inch bull . . . out of the box. Didn't
need to adjust the sights at all.

Good for you - the P17 seems to have great reviews.

Crosman 1322 and 1377 are great values in air pistols, too.

3-10 pumps, trigger easily improved with some hardware-store

springs and shims, lots of advice and improvements and

upgrades available, lots of possibilities for customization.

Simple to disassemble and reassemble, videos available online.

Have fun -

The last big ammo shortage, I purchased a Crosman CO2 pistol model 2240. I haven’t pulled it out in awhile. Time to start using it again. I should have several tins of pellets. And quite a few CO2 cartridges.
It works for me, but I have had a few opportunities to try match type airguns, and they will make you want one.

I tried air soft in a Sig P226 replica... it was okay.... got a BB CO2 in a P365 and it tends to jam but man that baby is powerful.... what I really like is a laser cartridge... only thing is you can only practice drawing from concealed and firing double or triple taps fast in double action.

I have a GAMO 1500, a .177 pellet rifle. Sez on the box the gun will shoot pellets at 1500 FPS. Not with standard .177 lead pellets though. It takes a special brass colored pellet to reach that speed. Best I get with lead pellets is close to 1200 FPS. Yes, I actually did run some over a chronograph. Nice gun that came with its own scope and has an easily adjustable trigger. I have mine right a 2.5 pound. Accuracy at 10 yards is ten shots in one ragged hole the size of a nickel. No apparent killing power though. I've head shot pocket gophers in the back yard and they run to their holes shaking their heads. I guess they have on hell of a headache at best. I also have a Daisy 880 pump gun and at 10 pumps, shots at gophers and they just lay down and die. Accuracy with is is better than one would expect but I like the GAMO much better.
I should invest in a good air pistol one of these days.

I think I will buy one of these, but not necessarily for practice at home. Maybe for squirrels or other critters that bug me, but since I cannot use a real firearm here in the city where I live, maybe one of these would work for me. I assume that they are pretty quiet.

I shoot air rifles and pistols in my basement to keep in practice. I have two Sheridan Blue Streaks and a Sheridan H9 air pistol, all pump in .20 caliber. Both rifles are extremely accurate and shoot about 650 fps, the pistol around 450. I took a 12"x12" cardboard box and filled it with the rubber playground mulch for a pellet stop. Use the target of my choice and loads of fun. The rifles are deadly on pests.

That is a great idea. I think I will make one with some scrap plywood I have. Maybe a wood box with a replaceable cardboard face.

I have the Crossman MkI (.22) and MkII (.177) single-shot CO2 pistols, which copy the look of the Ruger Standard pistol. They are very accurate, with enough velocity (350fps for .22, 400fps for .177) to take out small varmints. Since I live alone, I can use the entire 60' length of my house for target shooting, so I can also shoot my Webley Vulcan .22 air rifle.

One can also shoot wax in their own garage.
I'm glad I can shoot in the yard when I feel like it. Some of my Birthday Blastfests look like Knob Creek in my backyard. We were shooting at trees. When I want a mad minute I paint a line across a nice firewood size tree and we load everything up and shoot till the tree falls. People get killed doing that crap with chainsaws!!!

A chainsaw is a lot cheaper than all that lead thrown down range. It's now 12/10/23 and most people don't have that kind of ammo to waste away.

Yeah but where's the fun in that? I don't think anyone there regrets a round. That was freaking epic. Good thing every 2nd or 3rd person was an RSO.

I had all but forgotten about once having a Crossman CO2 revolver .. Honestly dont know what happened to it. My little brother probably broke it or sold it.. man that thing was so much fun.

Softair and pellet rifles are the ultimate low cost trainers. Softair versions of your firearms can be used almost anywhere you can hang a blanket. Semi auto pistols that blowback and full auto carbines etc are available in most popular platforms. You can use them in your carry holsters etc. You can run drills just like you can with firearms. Pellet rifles and pistols can also be used to run drills etc. Like I said in my previous post a decent pellet rifle is the best long range practice. A pellet rifle at 100yds is like a 300 or 50bmg at 1,000+ yds.

I bought a Ruger MK IV pellet pistol. I can shoot it down the hall into a cardboard box (if the wife isn't home). The trigger sucks but you get what you pay for.

During the pandemic when the ranges were shut down I set a target up in my garage. I have a Crossman CR357 revolver that shoots both BB's & .177 pellets as well as a Crossman 2240 single shot pistol that shoots .22 pellets. Both are CO2. When the weather stops me from going to the range it's a nice way to compensate.
