I saw a Ruger security six offered for sale on this forum and it is described as a "low back". The asking price seems higher than other security six revolvers I've seen advertised. What does "low back" refer to and are these guns more valuable or collectable than other security six versions?

If you're referring to Lovemydals', it's also 'behind the wall' inside of Ca. As these can no longer be imported into Ca., there is additional 'value' for Ca. buyers. It can be legally transfered to another Ca. owner.

The low backs are collectible, but in used condition I have seen them sell for about the same as the 151 and later prefix models.

There aren't as many people collecting Ruger DA's as say, S&W and Colt, but I collect the DA Six series and I would pay a little more for a low back early fixed sight Security Six (pre-Service Six).

Not to mention the matching (ser. no.) box. Box may be worth $100-$200 to a collector. :shock:

Picked up this Security Six not too long ago at a pawn shop. My 1st but not last Ruger "Six"

SECURITY-SIX
CAT. NO. SDA-34 4"

Third row- red line with serial number written in with red marker.

Glad I've got mine! (SDA-34 low back 'Security Six' with ser. no. matching box) :D
My guess is:
SDA = Service Double Action
RDA = Ruger Double Action
