Yesterday I got a Christmas card in the mail. It was from my sister-in-law in Warren, Ohio.
So you say, what's the big deal, she just mailed it late!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

NOPE, it was Post Marked December 12, 2020.
Incidentally, the post mark was across the BOTTOM of the envelope so I get to re-use the stamp !
I DO wonder where it has been residing/hiding all this time and where all it has traveled.

My local postmaster is great. Calls me about missing mail, claims, etc.

The USPS system, on the other hand, has really taken a nosedive this past year. Priority mail shipping times have been over a week since the election. I'm about to make a claim for a large box of brass that has been missing since it left the originating PO over 3 weeks ago.

My wife just received a Christmas card today (1/5/21) that was mailed 12/15/20 from 2 miles away in the same township. I'm still waiting for a Christmas package shipped USPS priority with tracking from 3 weeks ago. My tax dollars at work for us!

I've been waiting for a package that I ordered from Midway on December 9. It was shipped UPS to Allen Park MI which is about 60 miles from where I live. It was transferred to USPS on 12-15. I am still waiting for it. Tracking says that it is running late. Duh

I sent an email to my friends in England because I mailed them a Card around the 15th or 16th of last month; I asked if it had arrived yet; The delays makes me wonder because I just got a "Thank You" card from Ashley's Uncle up in Aurora, MN thanking me for the box of chocolate covered pecans I mailed him on the same date (15th or 16th). HMMM Wonder if Ashley's Dad got his box of them yet.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
What many seem to not understand is that due to the virus closing many stores the way to get anything from "A" to "B" was USPS, UPS, or FEDEX. The latter two are expensive compared to the Post office. The PO also has had, in many places, to reduce the amount of workers. Combine the two and it is obvious what is going to happen. You have more items going to more places with less workers. Logic should explain a lag in 'on time' service.

You know that's illegal and now that you've posted it on the inerweb.... the Postal Police will be showing up at your door?

TNW firearms out on Oregon mailed me a 9mm conversion kit on Dec9th for the rifle I bought from them ... it got to Portland on the 10th.... sat in Portland until the 23rd... arrived here on the 26th.

Unfortunately, the Postmaster General was forced to stop taking sorting machines “offline.”

If only he had been allowed to continue removing sorting machines, the USPS would likely be all caught up.

Actually, I’ve been in the middle of the whole shebang. First, UPS had a contract with both Walmart.com and nationwide for Kohl’s (who is a drop point for a small outfit called Amazon). UPS was running up to three weeks behind, so they refused to honor their agreements with the above companies, as well as a couple more smaller companies. While that may be litigated later on in court, the fact remained that these companies had to ship their orders somehow. FedEx was also refusing additional mass drop shipments. That left us at the USPS as we are not allowed to refuse service to anyone. Oh yeah, UPS was also dropping off small packages here by the thousands daily. That’s right- lots of you received a UPS box/package with a USPS first class label stuck on it. And guess what- we work so close together that when someone gets Covid-19, everyone who was in close proximity to them is forced to take a 2-week quarantine. That is our unwanted federal guideline. From the week before Thanksgiving until currently, those of us left have mostly worked 15- hour days at my plant. We even worked double shifts on Christmas Day. So yeah, we are way behind. No, it isn’t completely our fault. I worked 37 days @ 15 hours/day until this past Sunday. That was my first day off. Equally pass the blame on private companies who flat-out refused to deliver your online orders as much as you blame us. At least we have tried...

Couple years ago I placed an order from Ohio (I'm just outside Grand Rapids, MI). It was shipped UPS. Was told 4-5 days. I tracked it. Went to Allen Park, MI (Detroit), to St. Louis, Missouri, then to Austin, TX; off to Colorado, back to Missouri, North to Minnesota, went back to Detroit, and then on to Grand Rapids. I got the delivery in 2 weeks. Next time I'll just make the drive to Ohio and have it in 2 days; or I'll ship myself somewhere. Think of the airline miles I'll get!

In this time of known shipping delays and exponential volumes because of the 'pandemic' why all the B&M about the USPS. The other major carriers have had their ills since way before the pandemic. The USPS may not be your source of instant gratification but it does work. Go local it you don't want to wait. The regurgitation of 'USPS bad' is a really old issue!

Some days we just don’t get any mail. Or more specifically, the USPS mail person delivering the mail doesn’t even bother with our street. This happens quite regularly, probably a couple times each month. I’m glad we don’t rely on the USPS for anything since we pay our bills online.

Edited to add: I still think it would be better if the USPS went private. So what if it costs more, the service would improve.

Yesterday, I saw the UPS truck and an Amazon truck parked back to back on the street exchanging boxes.

In the past year, UPS and FedEx have delivered to me on time every time. Even during the Christmas rush. The post office is continuously late, sometimes by days.

Yes if you want to pay a whole lot more , I just checked UPS, sending their smallest package (0 to 100 cubic inches ) from WI to Dallas just under 10 bucks

My Friend in England sent me a message stating they HAD received the card, thanking me for it and sending loads of LOVE.

My Postman, the best I've ever had. My Post Office, and the Postal Service, not so much.

My Postman is so efficient, he is often called on to finish the routes of other carriers when he's done with his route. He says the Post Office up here is staffed with temporary carriers. And that seems to be the intention of the Post Office. They don't hire people permanently, and these temporary folks treat the job as a fill-in until they can find a real job. They just don't feel much obligation to the Postal Service. It shows, especially when they're filling in for my carrier on his days off.

When my carrier is on his day off, and somebody is filling in, we often get very little mail. When my carrier returns to work, we get a couple days of mail, all at once. So where is all this mail stored when the temporary carrier is busy not delivering it?

Received yesterday in the mail: Violation notice (traffic camera) for running a red light. My wife's car. Dated December 4.
Received today in the mail: Notice of fine and points taken from my license for disregarding the Dec 4 fine. Dated January 4.

Thanks for adding insult to injury, USPS!

WOW!!! and all the others too. I can't say I've had any problems lately and Amazon has been amazing. I ordered a battery for my wife's laptop and it got here the next day and this during the Christmas rush.

Thanks for the thoughtful explanation. Makes a lot of sense.
Hope things can get back to normal for you soon, and thanks for your efforts.

+1..... Always nice to see a 'thank you'... and a great explanation of part the problem too

IMHO of course,

Heck, I'm still waiting on a package that left one post office ten days ago on it's way to another. It takes about 30 minutes to drive from one to another. Wonder why the PO is crying poor. Imagine the overtime that driver has racked up getting from one place to another.

I purchased a Henry Big Boy Carbine in 327 from a pawn shop in Virginia Beach, VA on November 25th (Tuesday before Thanksgiving). It was shipped the same day Priority Mail to a dealer here locally. I kept up with the tracking for a few days and then gave up. I thought it might have been stolen en route.

The gun showed up on December 23rd just in time for Christmas! It only took 29 days to get here. I have heard about the postal workers doing 12 hours a day, seven days a week, etc. I blame the screwed up mismanagement for the issues. They buildup a system, get it humming and then tear it down and change it over in another city. Meanwhile, the taxpayers keep having to pump more $ in to keep it afloat.

I agree that privatization would be the best. I hope the workers get a break soon.

Thanks,

That’s because the USPS has a special deal with Amazon. They will
do Sunday delivery for them. No one else. I received a delivery on New Year’s Day. Again, just Amazon.

In short Amazon gets special treatment over other shippers.

I bought a dvd for wife as a xmas gift. It mailed on Dec. 5. It has not arrived a month later. Tracking says in route, sorry for the delay. :x greg

Sorry, I call BS on the excuses. As I said, my package "left" the regional center 11 days ago traveling to my local PO. The local PO is only a 30 minute drive. It hasn't shown up at the local PO yet. It's either stolen by a PO employee or the entire tracking history is bogus.

But wait! For $2.10 I can receive premium tracking that can give me more information. That gives me tracking for 6 months on this shipment. I can pay more and be able to get tracking information for ten years.

What? Tracking for 10 years! Just how long do they expect it to take to for a package to travel 30 minutes?
