Talking today to a guy and he was looking to sell a gun. He said he had a Ruger SP101 in 9mm. I asked about condition he said it was still in the box. Sounds unfired. I assume it's a 3". Can some one help me with a value. My guess was $800-$900 in that condition but it's been a long time since I've even seen one.

Due to lower collector value,,, (vs. the SA crowd,) I'd say your estimate is a bit high. Plus,,, with the other guns out there in 9mm,,, that will contribute to lower values. I have a nice Speed-Six in 9mm, and I still think it'd SELL for only $550-$600 at best. I doubt a SP-101 would command more.
JMO!

I believe there were a lot of folks out there that had their hunger for a 9mm revolver satisfied by the LCR 9mm and the SP101 9mm has become slightly less of a premium. I would offer $475 and top off at $550. I have a SP101 9mm 3 inch that I have carried for years and I consider it one of the favorites in my collection.

First, need to check to see if it's a long frame or short frame. We have yet to find a long frame 9mm SP101.
It may be either the 3" or the 2 1/4".

I would not buy it expecting to resell for more than $600. Of course you might get more but....
The LCR 9mm has really taken the wind out of the sails of the SP101 9mm, in my opinion, at least in the CCW market.
I bought one last spring at a show (Sunday afternoon after it had been exposed for sale all weekend) for $500. 2 1/4", used, not abused, no box.

On the other hand, completed auctions on Gunbroker show sold prices from $705 - $899. Go figure.
I think the 3" are less common.

Will he let you bring it to the show on consignment? Love to take a look at it, of course.

"Bear Paw",
Yes! We'll start out tomorrow - going to be a bit of a hike - may be in chains over the mountains but we'll have plenty of weight on board for good traction.
Looking forward to seeing you and catching up. I'll also bring along a couple for 'show and tell'. :D

Speed Six in good condition are bringing 900 up and LNIB 1100 to 1200 on Gun Broker. I doubt the SP-101 in 9mm will be as valuable, but 700 to 900 depending on condition and if it has the box sounds very reasonable. I have no plans to sell my Speed Six 9mm for any amount.

Short follow up. This was a 3" barrel, an early model, short frame, the owner had polished the rear part of the cylinder where it locks into the frame so the "ruger mark" wouldn't show so easily, so to call it NIB would be a misnomer. It did come with the box and paperwork. He wanted it put on the table for $700 which didn't happen. I only got it mid afternoon on Saturday and had it Sunday. Had I gotten it early who knows.

Just to let you know we sold one for our friend Bob Z this past Saturday at the Berea,Ohio gun show and we got him $800 for his SP101 9mm , new in the grey plastic case...had two guys want it, first one came back before the other, soooooooooooo, never say never, but we had NO lookers at a NIB 357 Maximum in 10 1/2 inch, nor a NIB 44-40 stainless Vaquero, short barrel ????? go figure, they don't want "cowboy guns"....... 8)
