I was reading the Hazard, Kentucky Blog this morning and I got another "blast from the past".
May 20, 1939 - The Dr. Pepper Bottling Company opened on East Main Street in Hazard.
I remember that well.
For us kids that was a great event. One of my marble shootin' pals told me his Dad would be working there.
During the Summer on Saturday morning we would ride our bikes over to the Dr. Pepper plant in the rear and he would give us a freshly bottled Dr. Pepper, unrefrigerated, of course. From there we would pedal on up the street to the local bakery and buy 2 of those big glazed donuts for a nickel. What a meal that was. When we finished eating we would ride back to Dr. Pepper, return our empties and make our reservations for next Saturday, rain or shine...
