Look what $50 got me at a gun show

Many people lament on how bad gun shows can be. And I can often agree that many gun shows have too much other "crap" that is not gun related.

BUT,,, I've almost always found some good deals on stuff at a gun show. While many of the guns are often overpriced,, I search out the various other things that can be worth owning & spending my money on.

This is but one of a few things I bought today. I spent $50 for this.

I went to a couple of gun shows in the past. I should go back.

To play devils advocate but it is a serious question. Are the bottles sealed? How can you be sure they are what they say they are? They could have been refilled or mixed.

I can't remember the last time I seen any reloading stuff at a gun show. I used to wait and buy primers and powder at gun shows when I was a kid, even lead bullets. Like I said, it's been years since I have seen that at a show.

Can you host it here so we can all see it. I realize 95% of us don't have the issue I have after the last forum update. But just a pic with no explanation only helps if the pic is hosted here. RFC doesn't like all off-site hosts for all users.

@contender ? Did you have to pay to get into the gun show?

It’s a good find. Around DFW it would have been around $70 something more with tax. Not sure how they handle sales tax at gun shows

Couldn't these be said about all powder cannisters? I don't care where you purchase powder, we have no idea of the contents or storage conditions. The same can be said of all over the counter medications, as well as many, many everday items in our lives.

Both containers were still factory sealed. I checked first. Plus,, I know the seller. By is an older man, and searches out estates, & buys a lot of reloading stuff to re-sell. I've gotten quite a few good deals from him over the years. a few shows back I got a baggie of 50 new, Starline 38-40 brass for $8.00. He had some bricks of primers,, WW & CCI,, marked at $40 a brick. He had some other powders,, but none I really use a lot,, so I left them there. He always has very fair prices on stuff. he has worked in a Pawn Shop locally and buys stuff cheaply.
He has sold my buddy (2) Dillon SDB set-ups for $200-$300 at two different shows. And the pricing reflected the "extras" he had.
I bought a Thumbler Tumbler from him a few years ago,, for $25.

Yes,, it cost me $11 to get in the show,, parking is free. I did buy a few other things,, like a set of Butler Creek scope caps for $5,, a neoprene gun cleaning mat, (a long one) for $15, a Kydex holster for a friend for $5. I passed on a Crimson Trace mini flashlight for a LCP for $25.
No taxes on "used" stuff here.

Deals can be found by LOOKING!!!!!!!!!!! When I say that,, I say look closely at boxes, odds & ends, or at tables where the dealer offers stuff other than guns. That CT light was in the bottom of a box of odds & ends. The scope caps were in a box of several sets. I just needed the rear cap in reality,, but he said they were all priced as a set.
I saw some other stuff that I will likely go back to a future show there to buy once I take stock of what I already have. And it's because the prices on some things was quite fair.

Guns,, several of the dealers had guns WAY over-priced. Used guns priced above current retail prices when purchased new. One stood out. A simple Ruger Single-Six convertible,, stainless, was priced at $900. I looked closely to see if it had anything special,, and nope,, a normal production gun.

GasGuzzler,, due to the picture being taken on my phone, and my being "computer stupid" I couldn't use the RF link stuff to get the picture here. What I got was a pound of Alliant 2400 powder, and a pound of H4227 powder for reloading.

I look closely at each table with "stuff" in boxes or piled up. The problem is in this area those sorts of tables and dealers are getting fewer and fewer.

That is a good deal because 2400 is impossible to find at any price. H4227 is a much better universal powder than Unique.

Same problem I have been whining about for month since the forum update. Can't see mine or anyone else's pics if they are not hosted on this site. Only can see the ones hosted here. This is the only forum like this and it started after the last update. I even have a topic about it where there was no help provided. I can see the picture blume posted and I can see the HTML that says it's hosted here as an attachment. But put it in IMG form and it doesn't show ... except in my edit post screen.

I miss the gun shows of 30 years ago when you could go in and purchase a weapon and accessories and leave. Now it is a two week wait even if you have had a Concealed Carry Permit for over 40 years. Nonsense.
30 years ago I was helping my uncle set up his booth at the Las Vegas show and in the morning while walking across the casino i put less the $5 worth of quarters into a slot machine and won enough to pay for the trip and a new Freedom Arms Premier grade 44m…. Lucky day, got to meet Mr. Baker and order directly from him, nice guy.
Today shows are great for selling a weapon to a dealer and not much more.

I wasn’t complaining or being negative. I was genuinely wondering how to make sure it was what it said it was for safety.

Being sealed is the only way I’d feel comfortable buying used powder.

I went to a show in Sarasota Saturday. It’s a smaller show that allows non-FFL dealers to sell off their personal collections. I too rummaged through boxes and bins and found a couple of small “treasures” that were priced right. I also saw ten times more Ruger single actions than I saw at the “big” show the weekend before Christmas, so I was in hog heaven! I didn’t buy anything but made reasonable offers on a polished stainless .32 H&R “Vaquerito” and on a Bisley Single Six, also in .32 H&R. Both the vendors know me, and maybe they’ll take my offer(s) the next show. The FFL who promotes the show had a 50th Anniversary Single Six with a minor imperfection that I’ll probably make an offer on, and a 4-5/8 OM Blackhawk in .357 that I might “rescue” (the grip frame was missing most of its finish). All-in-all it was a good show.

Yeah,, that 2400 was the better deal for sure. But I use both powders, and at $25 a pound,, it was like buying the stuff 6-8 years ago.

Yep,, unopened.

When I get stuff like this,, I mark the container with a date of when I got it, and depending upon where it came from,,, I may mark that on the container as well.

that 4227 using 25gn in a 44 hand gun is my favorite, 240gn bullet, 350 mag primer, out of my SW 629. at 75 yards, off hand. Mr Deerstalker

Same. Until open they all have the date and how much I paid on a label. Once opened I put the date opened.

I didn't see Kevin or at least didn't meet him. There were a lot more 3-screws and 10/22s than I have ever seen. I'll try to write down what I saw in a post later.

Scott,, I use 4227 a lot as well!

It is your gun and you are free to load any load you want, but 25 grn under a 240grn bullet is way too stout a load for a 629. Even one with the endurance package. 21 to 22 grns is a handful and the gun will take it if not fed a steady diet of them. I love my Smith & Wesson 44s, but they are not built like a Freedom Arms or BFR. Good luck with what ever you choose.
