Our local chapter of the Friends of the NRA held its annual fundraising dinner/auction/raffle tonight. Lots of Kimbers this year, a fair amount of Ruger revolvers and rifles, a couple of ARs and the usual space fillers.

No one bid on any of the four safaris/excursions to Africa, Argentina and New Zealand. Kisnda surprised by that.

The food was great, as usual. Saw a lot of old friends, had a good time with close friends, only spent a little more than I could afford rather than the usual more than I can afford. Won a nice, made-in-America leather concealed carry purse for Juanita, won a beautiful silver and onyx bracelet in the silent auction (for Juanita), got outbid on some Brunton binos in the live auction.

All in all it was a fun, enjoyable evening. Good turn out, early indications show a decent amount of money was raised.

Oh, and I won a Kimber Pro Carry II .45 in the progressive raffle! Finally won a gun after all these years. I already have two Pro Carrys, but what the hell. I'll take it.

Support your local Friends of the NRA, folks. We need them, now more than ever.

Peace and God bless, Wolfsong.

Sounds like you had a great evening. Congrats on winning the Kimber.

I'm not surprised at the fact the safari's didn't sell. Not as many folks want to travel to hunt like they used to. We too had zero interest in our safari's to the same places you mentioned.

I belong to the local Friends, but I have never attended a meeting. They have them on Thursday nights. And having to get up at 0'dark thirty doesn't allow me to attend. I can't figure out why they don't have them on Friday or Saturday. The attendance would likely be up. Then again, I imagine most of those that attend are old retired guys.

Good going on winning the Kimber. Maybe you can trade it for something you would rather have? I go to some of the local FORNA's. The only place I have won anything was in Barrow, Alaska. I won a picture frame! It was HEAVY! So I gave it away. I brought back a bunch of Eskimo art instead!

Last time I went to one I got drawn for three different guns and donated all of them back because I was not in my home state and did not want to mess with transfers. It was kind of embarrassing, the guest someone brought from out of town winning the drawing guns, yeah everyone patted me on the back and smiled but, I just knew, give them back in the name of good taste.
