I've had Single Sixes since 1976 and currently have 4 of them. I've been watching the Wranglers since they first came out and have been amazed at the various colors that came out over the years but they were all the 4 5/8" so I never got one. But last year they I saw the short Birdshead Wrangler and had to have one. Recently I've been dressing mine up with grips I've acquired over the years.

I thought it couldn't get better than a short Birdshead, but then Ruger came out recently with a Sheriff's Wrangler. I wanted one but I really didn't need another gun, so after a call to Ruger and $35 of parts I had this:

I would like to do the same with my birdshead. Can you provide more details how to purchase the plowhandle grip frame for a Wrangler. I think bronze would look great on a black frame (almost like two tone brass).

I contacted Ruger about buying a "plowhandle" grip frame to replace my birdshead frame (which is not comfortable to me). They responded that they'd only sell me a replacement frame the same type as the one my Wrangler came with originally.

I called Ruger a little over a month ago per the parts info in the Wrangler
owners manual. The lady I talked to must have just started working at
Ruger. When I asked about ordering a regular Black Wrangler grip frame
she said they couldn't sell those as they had the serial # on them. I told
her the grip frame attaches to the frame with the serial #. She finally looked
up the part # I gave her on the schematic / parts list and saw that it wasn't a
restricted part. Then she went to ask her supervisor if it was OK to sell. She
came back and said it was OK. I told her I wanted a Black and a Silver grip
frame. Off she went to her supervisor again. When she got back she said
they only had the Black grip frames, which I thought was odd considering
they must have done them in 20 colors by now and the Black, Silver and
Bronze are the standard colors. I ordered the Black grip frame and trigger
spring pin.
Two days later my package from Ruger arrived. The grip frame was not the
standard black but was "Armor Black" which must have been from one of
the special runs. The color looked good so I put it on. I like it!

Unfortunately the parts/customer service reps are apparently not gun

Yoter,
My order for my grip frame came from Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. 200 Ruger Road,
Prescott, AZ 86301
My customer service rep was "LD". You have to give your serial #, my Birdshead came up as model: 02015
The grip frame I received was: WRG00309-BLK, Grip Frame, (Armor Black
Cerakote Finish). The color isn't the standard black.

I really wish I had some of the old SR logo at bottom simulated Ivory grips laying around. They all look good I did the same with mine.

Good grief, I have to 'unsee' this thread.
The very first pic the OP put up, birdshead with gunfighter grips.
Very cool!
Agree. That's absolutely beautiful. If I was going to Concealed Carry a Single Action Revolver that would be it in a high ride crossdraw. It sounds like any of the gun enthusiasts have been run off by the bean counters.

Oh, I thought you meant my black jeans. I do carry a Benchmade Barrage clip on in a pocket and I hook my suspenders to them. I could carry a few different firearms, but have to lose some weight first. In the meantime, that good enough for dressin' up my Wranglers? ;)
Oh, and arfmel, I remember those water bags. My father had a couple he would attach to the front of the car and a truck he had.

I ordered a Talo Birdshead Wrangler to go along with the Super Wrangler I'll be teaching my grandsons with… Come to think of it my New Vaquero Birdshead .45LC came with an extra set of ivory-like grips. I'll have to dig them out and try the fit.
