Leon Russell passes

What a great musician and band leader.
I was lucky enough to get to watch Mad Dogs & Englishmen rehearse at Leon's house in Tulsa back in the day and have seen him perform live probably a dozen times over the years, always a great show.

A long time ago my wife and I went to an Edgar Winter concert (might have been his brother) and half way through the concert two roadies carried a dead body out on the stage and propped it up behind a piano... after a while this dead guy, white as sheet and looking really bad, started moving and playing the piano and singing.... that is how I remember Leon Russell.... the guy could perform even mostly dead.

The album I have of his that is amazing is "Hank Wilson's Back" Leon could do Hank Williams as good as Hank.

Leon will be missed by a lot of folks, myself included. Whoever you are, he had a song for you. RIP, old friend!

I also had "Hank Wilson's Back" when it came out. He was so much more than the songs he did, a powerhouse behind the scenes.

About a year ago I saw an old show; I think it was about someone else. He was on the piano and said something like: "♪ ♫ ♫ ♪ How's that?" It made the song come alive.

In many ways he reminds me of Todd Rundgren. Both musical geniuses without the big name. RIP, Leon!
