What in your opinion is the least desirable no. 1 configuration.

I have a 1B in .243 though it shoots great, just makes me yawn. As apposed to my 1 RSI in 7x57 that screams carry me to the woods.

Not quite sure of my least desirable but I am sure by your screen name that you would appreciate my most desirable which would be a 1A in 348 winchester! I have mentioned this to Jason at Lipseys several times for a limited run. Thought right now would be the perfect time because winchester just cranked out the model 71 again so ammo will most likely be run again as well.

Since all Ruger No.1 actions are alike, to me there are none that are more desirable than another.

I agree trapperon, a 1A in .348 would be cool and since I already have over a case of .348 ammo I could probably justify it, to myself any way.
I buy Ruger No 1s as an opportunistic buyer. If the price is right the caliber is unimportant.

Good question. Mine was a .458 Lott which had nice felt recoil, but sold it at a nice profit. I will regret that when the first elephant comes rampaging down the street.

I just had one of those "opportunistic" buys. wasnt at all loking for one but my local cabelas had a perfect shape 1A in 270 winchester on the used rack marked $599. I asked if they could do any better on the price and the clerk looked at the stock number and said let me check in the computer. he then replied "yep--I can save you another 70 bucks or so and wrote a number on a piece of paper -- here is what I can do. the number was $725. I showed him the tag again and he said wow--I will sell it to you for that if you want it! He said nobody would get in trouble and mis pricing happens every now and then there! Needless to say I told him to wrap it up!

crazy that 600 s a steal for a Number One now and it doesnt seem like that long ago 600 was the going rate for a new one!!

Ron

By the way--its the first 270 I hav ever owned in my many years of shooting and collecting!

Suppose my least favorite version is a B, but I wont pass one up for a good deal, first preference is a RSI ,hope to see a K1RSI someday. I love the 1S and the 1A as well.

For me least desirable are the SS/laminate guns. I think all blue/walnut are desirable I got hooked about 6 months ago. So far I've gotten a 1B in 300 Win Mag 1H in 458 Win Mag 1S in 7mm Rem Mag RSI in 30-06 all red pads except the RSI. Working on getting a 1V in .223 (local sale NIB for $900) then maybe a 1A to finish off the set - if it could ever really be finished. With the current ammo situation I've been trying to stick with ammo/reloading stuff I already have.

Any of the stainless models as in my opinion, the design and style just deserves a nice blued finish. Even then, the "B" variation just does nothing for me being sightless.

Interesting. I have a bunch of #1s. What I don't own or desire is a single one in RSI. Bought a 270RSI at the right price once for the action and butt stock. Sold the forearm, barrel and the stuff that made it an RSI and ended up paying well under $200 for the action/butt stock.

I did own most of the "H"s but sold all of them. So out of all the configurations i own NO "H"s and no RSIs.

I own "B"s than anything else though many wear AH forearms unless they fall into the rare/collector category, More "V"s than "S"s. More "S"s than "A"s, "AB"s and "AH"s

I do own 3 "B"s in 243, but they are non prefixes with pretty good wood. Oh and 2 "V"s in 243. One that is NIB and one that gets used for rock chucks and coyotes from time to time.

i agree about the sights.

There are undesirables and unneededs.

I have started to thin the herd of 14 of the latter -- mostly #1s in odd calibers, those I do not use, or have dupes for in the safe. I have sold 1Bs in 204 Ruger, 6MM Rem, 7MM RM, 257 Roberts, and 405 Winchester; a 1S in 300 WM; and SS/wood K1As in 6.5 Swede, and 35 Whelen; SS/laminates in 7mm STW and .375 H#H; an RSI in 7MM Mouser; a 7mm Mouser 1AB and a 7mm-08 1AH. A 22-250 B is on the market now.

Now and then I pick up the odd #1 with exceptional wood at a decent price and also have full custom #1s made once and a while.

I am keeping my array of custom #1Bs in the following calibers -- .22 Hornet, 338-06, .338 Federal, 7mm Rem, .300 H&H and 9.3x62; my custom carbines -- in 7mm 08, 6,5 Swede, 6.8 SPC II, 280 AI, and 257 Roberts AI; a .35 Whelen 1H; a 45-70 1H; and a 41 Mag 1H. The factory 1Bs I am keeping include a .25-06, a 264 WM, a 7mm-08 K1B, a .270, a .280, a .308; and a 30-06. I also have a 1A in .270; a 375 HH, and a 45-70 Lyman Centennial.

If I sell many more 1Bs I may have to change my username here and elsewhere.

I don't care for the stainless rifles. Of the blue rifles, I much prefer the 1B and RSI models. The tropicals look pretty good, too.

Least desirable: the gun you can't find a use for. My example of which:
At one time I installed a high dollar, low power scope on a #1H in .416 Rigby for a client.
Bore sighted. Took 2 shots @ 50 yds for correction, one more at 100 for further fine-tuning, two more to make the point.
Shoving it back in his hands, (he appeared a bit panicked/reluctant) along with the 15 remaining Federal cartridges, I went to the chiropractor, and she removed the PAST pad from my body.
"Anything that brutal" is on my list of undesirable.

I've always felt the #1 deserved the unusual cartridges more than just "production".
The 6mm Rem and .243 Win, or .257 Robt. and .250 Savage in a #1A are sweet combinations. Despite the high popularity of the .243 Win., as it's just that pleasant of a gun. The .220 Swift, and the .280 Remington in a #1B just seemed "right".

What I'd like to see?
Likely a #1S: .348 Win (mentioned above) the old .38-55 Ballard.
In #1s or 1B: 7x64mm.
300 Savage, 7mm-08, and... a .357Max in a #1A.

I have noticed the Ruger No.1 in 7mm Rem Mag don't seem to sell well. Great caliber IMO but not a big seller.I have 1 stainless Ruger no.1 in 25/06. When the weather bad it's what I hunt with.

Here in CA I've noticed that 7mm Rem Mag doesn't sell well in SoCal but it does in NorCal.

I like the stainless/laminated guns and the stainless/walnut ones also. I prefer the 1A's or 1S guns myself, but the "B"'s don't do much for me

How about a 1AB in 338 Ruger? Or a 1B in 22 hornet?

Okay, I am going to revise my opinion:

How about a 1S in 300winmag with a 22" barrel?

It seems like around here any Number One in a 30-06 is a tough sell. But I love 'em, so I've got a couple of them really reasonable.

Of the ones I have owned the 1-KB in 243 was it. Too dang heavy for what it was. Had itbeen a 35 Whelen or a 338 win mag, no biggie, but I can do the same thing with 2 less pounds with my 700 CDL.

I have a 1AB in 30.06 that is just screaming to be made into a 338 Federal with a real butt pad. I do like that round for a late evening, DRT, maker and 1B is getting heavier every year. But I can't decide what would be the best, low power, low light, affordable scope for the 1AB?
