LCR pocket carry

How are you guys and gals carrying your lcr in the pocket? I am using a Simply Rugged pocket protector. I find this holster to do a sufficient job but I feel that there are probably some better designs out there for this.

What's in your pocket?

I do as you do and am completely satisfied with Rob's Simply Rugged pocket protector.

If I carry in a holster, it is in a Simply Rugged Silver Dollar pancake holster with in and out straps.

Rob does good work.

I have a Blackhawk nylon pocket holster for mine, and have decided to replace it because the extra material that helps square up the bottom and hold the revolver in the vertical position has softened and allows the revolver to rotate in my larger cargo shorts pocket. It still works fine, though, in my khaki pants. I can stuff the LCR in my front jeans pocket, but it's a tight fit and produces a noticeable bulge, so I limit my pocket carry to khakis and cargo shorts. I was thinking about getting a DeSantis Pocket Tuk, but perhaps I should look at the Simply Rugged one, too.

It does the job but I feel that a rig specifically made for the lcr would do a better job. S.R. makes GREAT holsters but this one left a little to be desired. I am going to keep searching for that right one...

I have one of the cheap blackhawk holsters and a MiKa pocket holster.


Mika is very well constructed and does great job, but i prefer th blackhawk due to it being thinner and less cumbersome. Once winter gets here, or if i dont care about extra bulk, the mika will be used.

Both do a fine job as far as im concerned.

Thanks, Cyclepath...perhaps I'll check out the DeSantis first, as they have different item codes between LCR/SP101 guns and J-Frames at least.

Everyone is going to have their own opinion and everyone on the Internet is a firearms expert so arguing over this is going to be pointless, but I will say that you're going to find a hard time locating actual experts that think it's a good idea to pocket carry without a holster, no matter how careful the person is. The holster covers the trigger, keeps the gun perfectly stationary and at the exact same angle for a smooth draw every time (even if you end up having to run or wrestle with an attacker it won't get slanted or canted funny). But again, this is one of those things that you won't convince some people of until they learn the hard way.

I agree. I've seen too many threads ruined lately by folks bickering. Heck we all have ideas & what I like may not suit you, & visa versa!
Let's quit bickering & share ideas.

Has anyone else found the stock rubber grips to be a bit big for pocket carry & they are tacky, & unlike wood will hang up or drag when drawn? Anyone else?

Frank, I think that's a common complaint... Seems like the smaller hogue boot grips mostly fix that. I think the eagle rosewood grips would as well, but I think you'd get more of a kick in the hand out of that vs the cushioned rubber hogues.

The tackiness of the Hogue grip isn't bad, considering I get my whole hand around it before drawing, which covers up most of the tacky surface. This assumes the pocket is big enough to do so, but in my case, khakis and cargo shorts work well in that respect.

I pocket carry my klcr when I go fishing sometimes (In a desantis pocket holster). But that's only because when I'm fishin, I don't care about printing, and I'm wearing cargo shorts. If I want to pocket something for a trip to the store, I usually grab the lcp. Every time I do though, I feel like I want more gun! Not just size wise, but I like knowing that I have a .357 when I have the klcr.

I sometimes pocket carry my J frame Smith. However, what I find with pocket carry is I might as well have a brick on the table next to me if I'm sitting down. Drawing a revolver out of a pocket while sitting at a table or booth in a restaurant or, heaven forbid, in a theater is pretty difficult.

In the front pocket, you pretty much have to stand up or find some way to contort your body in such a way as to be able to get a straight pull (at least if your body has the extra belly mine does). In tha back pocket I find somewhat incomfortable when in a seated position.

In a pancake style or IWB holster anywhere from about 3:00 (side) to about 6:00 (small of back) works for me either standingor sitting.

I rarely wear shirts that need to be tucked in and even more rarely get dressed up for anything. In those unfortunate events (like weddings or other "functions") where I do have to dress more formally, I will pocket carry until such time that I can shed those clothes and get back into something more appropriate. :D

Just something to think about.

Thanks, I'm going to check out the Hogue stocks. I want to look at the Eagle too I'd kind of like a set of woodies for it. Thanks for the tip.

Boy I agree, when seated a front pocket carried gun is almost un-accessable. You have to do some fancy contortions to get at it & sometimes that's about the only option for me.
Maybe a bellyband??? Bianchi used to make one & I used it a bit. It was almost invisable & if you wore a snap shirt instead of a button shirt it was quick to get at.

I'm staying tuned, lots of good ideas here.

When I know I'm going to be sitting, I wear my klcr in a galco stow n go holster just to the right of my belt buckle. It's super comfortable. although, until I tried it I would have thought that anyone that did it was nuts!

With cargo pants/shorts with a slit type pocket opening, I use a blackhawk/uncle mikes #4 in right front pocket. Pants or jeans that have a horizontal pocket opening, make it more difficult for me to access the LCR. Especially from the seated position. Same with the LCP.

Not really. I just make sure when the wife chews my ass, she gets the right side. That way I have room for the revolver 8)

How unsafe is an uncovered trigger? This Smith has been toted to death in a hip grip as the pics show and I still have 10 toes(famous last words). It is carried between my pants and boxers in the area between my hip and back pocket.
