Ronin,
That is SWEET! Give us some details please.
What color is that?
She looks great!
I love the Sixes that have the bevel on the cylinder frame.
Makes me miss my speedy all the more... I can't wait for Mr. Reeder to get her finished

Very nice work! Please describe your method for removing the etched numbers. Is that a bead blasted finish?
That kind of success should give you a real big warm fuzzy!

that is some great work. it came out... well I can't find the words that describe how well it came out just impressive

Below will be pics of where the scribing was.

I completely disassembled everything (even removing the front sight as it was beat to heck and had to be replaced) and then put everything in an ultrasonic cleaner with some excellent material that will remove all kinds of grease and oil (to include asphalt). It is called Excel Clean HD from a company called ASTEC out of Indianapolis (I have no stake in them other than I found this product while doing work at a plant that makes asphalt and it really inpressed me).

I then polished the hammer and trigger and set them aside. I used a Dremel tool with a flap wheel sander to remove most of the extraneous scribbling. I also used some Cratex tips and other Dremel pieces to try
to get it off without messing with the basic shapes and curves.

I then masked off the cylinder, only leaving the flutes exposed. The cylinder, frame and trigger assembly then went to the blasting cabinet. I blasted everything with 120 grit aluminum oxide.

I removed the tape from the cylinder, ran a bolt up through and chucked it in my drill press. I used different grit sand papers to remove the dings and finished it with a 600 grit wet/dry automotive paper.

The color is stainless steel, I did nothing to it except coat it with an gun oil called Weapon Shield

It did come with Pachmyer grips (rounded at the base and they do have the ruger medallion installed) and I think that it came from Ruger configured this way, but the grips are pretty crappy, like the gun was when I got it.

I did also replace the front sight with some help from a Rugerforum member (thanks John, the sight was perfect) as Six series sights are hard to come by.

Here are close ups of where the markings were, as you can see, they are no longer there:

I picked up one of those same guns on Gunbroker with the same marks. I bought mine for a beat up truck gun I wouldn't care too much about and that's the role it fits.

I wish mine looked like yours but I don't think I want to put the time/effort/money into rehabbing it.

Great job!

Sweet, just got a Secuirty six that I hope to do similar work to.

Very, very, very nice! I especially like the stocks, which seem to be copies of the old S&W Target stocks, and they look great on this gun.

I don't normally like fixed-sight DA revolvers, but this one looks pretty cool. Well done!

Snake45, the grips are from ShopRuger.com. They are old, new stock. They were found somewhere in the warehouse and they are on sale for a good price ($10 each or a pack of 6 for $49). I'm probably goibng to pick up another 6 pack here real soon (as long as they still have them).

rammerjammer, I got mine off GB also, I got it at a good price so I couldn't pass it up. I am always looking for these types of guns (beaters, ones that people didn't take care of, etc.) to refurbish. Money wise it wasn't that much, the cost of new grips and the front sight. Time wise it took about 6 hours or so to do the work (spread out over several weekends). I had seen the other one on GB but didn't have a chance to do any bidding.
