Had another surgery today. Ive been off work since Sept/2014 when I had a pretty significant surgery on my foot that involved fusing joints , resculpting my heel , and bone grafts. Today was pretty minor compared to everything else I've gone through. I had a bone growth stimulator implant in my leg with the lead buried into the bone graft site. It was removed today.

Not feeling too bad considering. It was a quick procedure and I was only out for a little over 30 minutes. Easier to bounce back from compared to the almost 4 hour operation back in Sept. and I walked out of there right after the recovery room. But im stuck on the recliner with a stack of pillows under the leg for the next few days.

The good news is that as soon as the incision is closed up completely in a few weeks its looking like the doc is going to let me loose and I'll be getting back to work! Its been a looong 9 months! Only 1 to go!

Thanks!
I never could dance before the fact so I doubt I'll be any better at it now! Haha!

Been kicked plenty Ed! Workin on getting this healed up so I can do a little kicking myself soon!

Hang in there! I once spent (literally) 9 months IN a full length body cast after 2 months in traction. That was a long year for sure.

Tap dancing was the least of my concerns although the subject did come up a few times.

And it's always good to start feeling better.

Cheers to you, rugerjunkie, it all will eventually just be a horrid hard to believe memory.....

That had to be a tough year! Ive been dealing with this situation since 2006 and although this one was pretty minor , it was my 4th surgery on it. I'll never be back to "normal" but I am feeling better than at any time since the accident back in '06.
Things could always be worse and Im thankful that they weren't and Im headed in the right direction feeling better now.

9 months! Wow... Lucky you've got a job where you CAN be laid up that long. Wishing you the best for a complete recovery and getting back to work!

I've been truly blessed... In 45 years+ of working, I've taken less than 15 sick days. (Five of those were in a row for an attack of diverticulitis back in '99...)

Having a job waiting for me when I am healed up has taken a TON of stress off of me during all of this for sure! Up until this issue , I never miss work either. In fact I have not missed a day until I took off for the big surgery back in September. Hopefully I'll be back in that groove soon!

My wife went through that two years ago and it was bad for her. She was born with flat feet and they have been hurting her. They tried building her a arch. They used a cadaver bone that didnt take and she had to get it done twice. She still has a hard time walking and has gone through much pain. It changed her life. We like to ride the trails on our RZR and I fear if we break down even a half mile from the truck we would be in trouble and many rides we get 40 miles from help! Then she had to get a knee replacement.

I had foot surgery on the left in 2010 to help a fallen arch. It has an arch now but he also fused bones in the back to straighten the foot. The latter procedure I do not like as it doesn't allow the inside calf muscle to work like it should.

Sorry to hear about others dealing with similar situations but its also nice having others that know what a b**ch it is going through it!

Ive talked about it here before but a refresher short list is I shattered my left heel in a fall in 2006. One surgery to put it back together.
Laid up for 7 months.
2 months after getting back to work...hardware comes loose and have it removed. That revealed 2 tendons in my foot that were severed by the loose hardware.
Laid up for almost 8 months from that. The damaged tendons were harder to bounce back from than the broken bones.

Was so-so for several years but as arthritis set into the heel/ankle joint the daily pain was too much to deal with anymore.
Septembers surgery was to fuse the heel and ankle and the cuboid to the heel.

There was dead bone in my heel and thst cant be fused. Instead of cadaver bone the doc went into my lower back and took bone from the pelvis. That was enjoyable! Lol! Hurt worse than the foot! Then there was a bone growth stimulator put into the graft site.

Eveything is finally healing up but the implant and wire were aggravating tendons in the ankle so it had to come out before tearing up more parts that I cant afford to have tore up.

So after 8 years of on and off dealings with this , Im hoping Im done with this! I have lost some movement in the foot but its not as bad as ya might think. I can still roll the foot around and up n down and yesterday and today Im also walking without a limp for the first time in years! And the joint pain is gone! Im not signing up for any marathons any time soon but I cant explain how happy I am at the moment. Its been a long road but Im finally thinking I can live with the results now.
