Ken Burns “Country Music” series

Anyone else watching the Ken Burns Country Music series on PBS? I am and find it to be informative and really entertaining. I especially like the 1953-63 part which covers the time of my youth. Also, my grandparents used to break out the guitar, fiddle, accordions with my cousins, and aunt on the piano playing Carter family and Jimmie Rogers tunes on family holidays. Love the memories....

I watched a fair amount of it and found quite a bit to be interesting. It does seem
to say the same thing that most "industries" have, industrial incest. But, as I said,
that seems "normal".

Found some of the still living performers to be entertaining. Some with their wit and
insight, and some with their immense egos. (latter deserve a :roll: )

I'll also say that since I grew up on both classical and rock-and-roll, a bit of it was
hard for me to listen to (that's why I said "a fair amount", because I exercised the
channel changer).

Seems to be a good documentary. :D


P.S. Rap (which is NOT music, no matter what they call it) is a separate anomaly.

Miss Penny & I are watching it. We are a bit behind,, (recording it,) as my work hasn't allowed me to be home in time to sit & watch. We've only seen the 2 hr special overview,, and 92) of the actual episodes. Last night,, we watched Episode 2, "The Hard Times," 1933-1945. We both enjoy a range of music,,, AND grew up in the midst of a lot of the history they are showing. We know the places,, most of the songs, and even some of the people. My Dad was in the music business,, even prior to WWII. So,, I do have a good memory of a lot of this.
It is an excellent insight into much of the beginnings & progression of the music. And,, it's not all glossed over,, as they do share SOME of the real life stuff that happened. Drinking, womanizing, poverty, hardship, diseases,, as well as tidbits of many artists lives that are interesting.
We are looking forward to watching all of it.
