Today is a great day! The great war to end all wars is over and things are looking up. Summer is only one day away. The "baby boomers" are getting a good start. :P I WAS BORN TODAY. :D Today I am now 65 years old. A day that I thought would never arrive when I was working, raising children, not able to afford anything etc. Now I am too old to do anything, still trying to get the children on their own, and still can't afford much. The good thing is that I am still alive, well, and happy. :P I hope the next 65 years are just as good. Steve

A Most Happy Birthday, Steve!

Wishing you many, many more!

Happy Birthday!! I'll have to tell my son who turned 17 today, that he shares a b-day with the great and world-reknown Callshot.
HIVO

HIVO, world reknown....are we talking about the same guy here.
Old Callshot seems to be catching me, just hope he never passes me
I'm sure few of you have ever heard of Bancroft, Idaho, its a beautiful little town about 15 miles west of Soda Springs, thats where Callshot grew up. The population is about 150 people with a fair number of farmers living in the area, nice country if you like peace & quiet, thousands of acres of wheat fields, quite a lot of cattle & alfalfa, a couple of excellent lakes with great trout fishing & some pretty good hunting.
Old Callshot grew up hard & fast, he was driving a tractor before the 3rd grade & his family pretty much lived on deer meat & suckers, yes suckers. His dad would take a couple of old wash tubs & drive to Soda Springs to the sucker trap & catch hundreds of them, Steve's mom would can them & thats pretty much what he grew up eating until he left home. He always had to wear hand me down clothes from his older brother or cousin, usually bib overalls, same way with shoes. He said he was gone from the nest before he ever tasted beef! He had a bout with Polio went he was very young, got a hand tangled up in a lawn mower & lost part of one finger. I don't think he ever kissed a woman until he had came home from his church mission in Africa. He was always somewhat of a loner but was always true to himself, he never, ever compromised & I'll guarantee he's never told a lie in his life, thats just the way he is. He doesn't think thats odd, he thinks thats the way its suppose to be.
This little town is nestled in the mountains & the Fort Hall Indian reseveration is on the north border, its pretty remote country. Now, if any of you could think of a more unlikely place for a Hall of Fame baseball player to have lived this would probably have to be it.
Here's a Mormon community, surrounded by lots of other Mormon communities & right in the middle of them comes REGGIE JACKSONS family! Yup, the home run phenom actually lived in Bancroft for a time, his dad worked for one of the farmers in the area & the Jackson kids went to school with Callshot & all the other little country hillbillies! Reggie had a younger brother named Wayne & also a sister, can't remember what Steve said her name was. Steve said Wayne was his age & that the other boys were always egging Steve on to pick a fight with Wayne, I don't think Callshot was ever in a fight in his life.... maybe over a fork or something with one of his sisters.
He's had it pretty tough but never complains. He just takes what life dishes out & keeps his head up, happy Birthday ya old Fart! ya, I guess he is kind of famous.
Oh, I would have taken him for a huckleberry shake but he's out of town all day.

Dick

Thanks to all of you members here. It was a good day for me. I think that I have been completely around the sun for 65 times now, and I have never found any better people anywhere than all of you here. Well maybe except for Dick. He can be a nice guy IF he tries and I am sure that his mother loves him. Thanks again for your wishes to me. Steve

Rumor has it, that's how Reggie Jackson came to Major League fame. Callshot was quite the sandlot pitcher. He had a tremendous knuckle ball, missing those fingers, what else would he throw ? Anyway, after going against Callshots pitching, the rest was down hill from there. Reggie Jackson owes Callshot a huge thanks for his career !

Dang it!!! I've been so busy trying to take my first Ground Squirrel I plumb missed Callshots Birthday!! I'll never get to the magic 100 mark, I cant even find a single ground squirrel in my neck of the earth. I sure do hope my buddy Steve makes it to the 100 mark in good spirit and health. I hope he has some 100 proof hillbilly hootch to hoist to honor the occassion too. Thanks for keeping Dick out of trouble, he needs to be looked after 100% of the time. I hear he put a for sale for 100 dollars sign on your new truck! What a cruel joke!! You need to load your 12 guage shotgun with jalapeno seeds and pepper his big rear end whenever you catch him skulking around trying to peep in your windows. Did you know that a 12 guage shotgun holds 12 jalapenos to a pound?

Happy Birthday from from me, also. I also celebrated my birthday on 6-20, but I have 11 years on you. I have a plaque my ex father-in-law gave me many years ago:
Do not begrudge growing old,
Many are denied the privilege.

Hope you have many more.
