Sad day indeed. I always looked forward to his writing.
Amen to all the good words said above and sad another leaves us all too soon but he is up there in the big range in the sky with some fine other folks, May they ALL rest in Peace....we truly miss them all.........
When I let Dustin know this morning I told him JT was probably discussing 45 Colt loads with his dad this very day!

Mr. Taffin was an English teacher, Mentor, Writer, Revolver officianado, Christian and a Great human being , He will be missed was my inspiration for getting into Big Bore Revolvers. I can't say I read everything He ever wrote but it's a lot. Rest in Peace.
A friend of mine that lives 25 min from John's House sent me this :
There is not one scheduled as of yet. I am on the list to attend but more than likely it will be a celebration of life diner not a funeral. Or so Dot said today.

Time takes an awful toll. We are beneficiaries of his skill, knowledge, and experience. His soul is now separated from his body, but his legacy lives on. He will be remembered.

So sad to read. But I was expecting it to occur before too much longer. Like someone else had said, he had had a rough go a couple years ago, and I always felt like that was a ticking time bomb (even though I doubt his eventual passing had anything to do with that event). But I considered myself lucky every time I opened Guns or American Handgunner and saw a new article from him.
Time comes for us all eventually. Enjoy your rest, Mr. Taffin.

I traded e-mails once with Mr. Taffin on Garrett cartridges. I was so surprised he took time to reply to me. Truly a class act and great guy. His Perfect packing Pistols always resonated with me as well as all my rancher, cowboy and working man friends who pack single actions. Rest in Peace John, say hi to Elmer for us if Elmer made it that far north!
Elmer and Skeeter probably made it. Charles Askins may have taken the southern route!

Yes he was! I have the book. When he shot the German Sergeant taking a dump from across the river he convinced me that he was a crazy bastard. Anyone who would shoot a man who was taking a nice leisurely dump has a streak of mean in him.
I read some articles over 40 years ago about his time in the US Border Patrol. He called "OO" Buckshot "Blue Whistlers" and carried a Remington Model 11 with a 20" barrel.

Actually I bet there are three John’s standing around up there. John T, John L and their good friend John Gallagher who went before to start the campfire before his other two friends arrived. It has been a rough few years for the handgunner world when you realize the loss we have had with these three gentlemen along with Mike V and Mark Hampton and Bart Skelton.
We're losing a generation of "gunnies" . . . and many of us are part of it.

For many yrs I had turned to the last page of the Guns magazine to read John's latest writing! I nearly had a stroke when they made the change moving John's workings to the front of the magazine!! His writings will surely be missed!

I agree. I have started my grandkids in the hobby of revolvers (the kids are all in their 20's)
They were up to speed on semi autos but not revolvers. Out of curiosity I checked the inventory of a local gun store. They had on hand.
26 revolvers and
223 semi autos. :cry: I enjoy semi autos, but we are going to have to teach the kids about the love of revolvers (y)
