Remember, the day is not Turkey Day, but rather, Thanksgiving. The accepted story is that the early Pilgrims set aside a certain time to have a feast of Thanksgiving, thankful for their survival during a harsh winter.

So, after my morning devotions, I tried to name all my blessings, not the least of all being y'all here on the Ruger Forum. Y'all have contributed so much, especially after the loss of my dear wife, in just being here. In your way, y'all have filled in the gap for a lonely man and eased the pain.

And, I've learned a great deal about the Single Action Revolver, and especailly those of the Ruger brand.

Thank each and every one of you for the flowers and, yes, even the briars.

ain't that the truth.... I consider myself very well bless and part of it is the folks here... I'm still 'old school' in many ways and one of those is I still write my appointment for my work in a book... here is the later half of this week:

Kids and grandkids are here. Grandson helped me clean up the yard this morning (because of my back) and bring in some wood for the wood burner, got the birdy feeders up and filled that will make them (and the squirrels) happy. Just put the turkey in the fryer, we eat in about 1 1/2 hours.

Giving thanks for all we have and pray for a change of outlook from our elected workers/representatives (they are not our leaders, they are supposed to work for us not themselves).

Blessings to you Bob! I have only been married 50 years this past August and I can't imagine spending a minute with another woman.

On Thanksgiving day we planned to spend the day with our new associate pastor and his family. Their little daughter was sick with unknown virus so we and another older couple cancelled out. My wife prepared a full Thanksgiving meal for the two of us that was spectacular. I am blessed. Thanks for sharing.

It's the day after,, and I just saw Bob's message here. I too want to say that we are blessed here. Yesterday,, we traveled to our youngest son's house,, to be with family,, and the ladies had all pitched in and made a fantastic dinner for us.
Miss Penny & I were discussing our wonderful day,, and simply put,, it was a very peaceful calming day of pure love for each other and all of us knowing how Blessed we are.
As I sat at the dinner table,, after thanking the Good Lord for the blessings he's given us,, I looked around. Jim, Karen, Barbie & Penny are all cancer survivors. John is a very high functioning autistic guy, while Dave recently had gall bladder surgery, leaving Trint, Jess & I as the only 3 there without having struggled with some form of life altering event. Yet,, we all were laughing, sharing funny stories, making quips to comments others made, to the point where the laughter almost had a few of them crying it was so hard.
And afterwards,, we all lounged around, looking out over Lake Keowee, or occasionally watching part of the Star Wars movie that Trint had put on just to have something on. But it was the true feeling of thankfulness of all of us knowing we are blessed.

We all get along together, we don't have problems between any of us, and we are all very close as a family.
That in itself is a true blessing to be thankful for.

Then I also reflected upon how this big Ruger Forum is also like a family. For the most part,, we too all get along very well. Yes,, we do occasionally have a few members who don't appreciate each other or have differing points of view. But for the most part,, we do have a good place here.
We do support others when times are tough. Just like Bob mentions,, I think many of us felt the loss when he lost his wife. We were here. And it's been that way for a long time. I can recall how wolfsong lost a child in his family,, and how we all stepped up to try & be there to help the healing. (Yes,, wolfie,, I do recall that.)

So yesterday,, as I sat with my family,, I reflected upon my other families. My fellow Vets, the folks from my BSA Troop, my shooting friends from all over,, and of course,, this Forum. I hope all had a wonderfully blessed day!

Thank you Bob Wright!. I consider Thanksgiving the most important holiday of the year. It has both aspects of a civil and religious holiday, and the Pilgrims and the 'Strangers' (non-Pilgrims) among the Mayflower passengers set the course for our great representative government that our founders bequeathed to us.
There are more significant religious holidays like Easter and Christmas, and important secular days such as Independence Day and Veteran's Day, but Thanksgiving covers both aspects and gives us an opportunity to not just remember important historical events but to give thanks to the Lord for his blessings and grace bestowed to us and our prosperity.

It was a good thanksgiving day; I shared frozen Turkey Dinners with the young man that rents a room from me and a pound cake from an acquaintance I know at the local dog park. It was an enjoyable evening.
